The White House is lying about a telephone call between President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to Turkish government officials.
-snip-
The White House said that Trump had on Wednesday told Erdogan to de-escalate the situation in northern Syria. He said Turkey should limit its military actions and exercise caution, according to his administration.
But Turkey reacted negatively to that statement, accusing Washington of twisting the call to suit Trumps agenda. Official Turkish sources told AFP news agency that the release by the White House does not accurately reflect the content of the phone call.
The two leaders' discussion...was limited to an exchange of views, a Turkish official said. The official added that Trump had not shared any concerns about escalating violence, in contradiction to the White House statement.

Except Putin. For some of reason he never has had one bad thing to say about him. Ever.

(48,955 posts)with foreign leaders - of having an official listening - who then can provide a written record of the conversation - to prevent such 'misunderstandings' or 'claims of lies'? Maybe Trump's "take my word for it" approach (aka "believe me!" ) leaves him open to such embarrassments. Of course while that might be helpful to past president - since this one just spews whatever pops into his head - there is no reason to suspect the protocol would work - as it would require that what he spouts off reflect actual conversations.

Trump is on the world stage and this "misunderstanding" might be enough to fracture the Turkey/NATO Alliance. Of course, Putin would be quite happy with that outcome. So happy that perhaps he suggested such a response from his US Syndicate guy...Putin's Turkey Syndicate guy is probably scripted in on it too.
