Presented with letters, Ryan admits requesting stimulus funds
Source: ABC News
After repeated denials, Paul Ryan has admitted he requested stimulus cash even after sharply criticizing the program.
Ryan had denied doing so as recently as Wednesday, when he spoke to ABCs Cincinnati affiliate, WCPO, in Ohio.
I never asked for stimulus, Ryan said. I dont recall
so I really cant comment on it. I opposed the stimulus because it doesnt work, it didnt work.
Two years ago, during an interview on WBZs NewsRadio he was asked by a caller if he accepted any money into his district. Ryan said he did not.
Im not one [of those] people who votes for something then writes to the government to ask them to send us money. I did not request any stimulus money, the congressman answered.
But as weve now learned, Ryan did write letters. He did request stimulus funds.

(3,384 posts)WASHINGTON (AP) Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan on Thursday reversed course and acknowledged lobbying the government for millions of dollars in economic stimulus money after twice denying he had done so.
The Wisconsin congressman said he had forgotten that his office sent letters with his signature to the Energy and Labor departments asking for money from the stimulus program on behalf of two companies in his home state.

Thanks to the British press for labeling Mitt as a twit in early August.

(478 posts)Thursday, Ryan responded to the questions himself.
After having these letters called to my attention I checked into them, and they were treated as constituent service requests in the same way matters involving Social Security or Veterans Affairs are handled, Ryan said in a statement. This is why I didnt recall the letters earlier. But they should have been handled differently, and I take responsibility for that....
I interpret Ryan's comment to mean he should not have helped his constituent obtain federal grant funds.
Would you like your company based in a district where your representative won't help you get available federal grant funds?

(11,087 posts)after having previously asked for them. With Romney and Ryan you have to look at their retroactive positions, which you won't actually know until after the election, when they promise to reveal their secret plans. Unless they retroactively decide not to shred all the evidence.

(4,847 posts)after eight nightmare years of little boots with two wars while funneling the treasury to "loyal" global corporations and cutting taxes for their wealthy friends, instead of sacrificing because we are at war; that obama hasn't helped the economy. Obama compromised with these arseholes; sometimes to our detriment, while they did everything in their power to make sure the economy stayed in the toilet. To me, these repugs care nothing, nada, for the majority of the american people. All they care about is winning and watching out for their own portfolios.
