Mark Salling Dead in Apparent Suicide a Month Before His Sentencing in Child Porn Case

Source: People

Mark Salling has died in an apparent suicide weeks before being sentenced to prison for possession of child pornography. He was 35.

“I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning. Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment,” his attorney Michael Proctor tells PEOPLE. “He is survived by his mother and father, and his brother. The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected.”

An LAPD PIO told PEOPLE that officers responded to a death investigation at the 11900 block of Big Tujunga Cyn Road Tuesday morning at 8:50 a.m. but could not identify Salling.

The Glee star pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor Oct. 4, 2017. After striking a plea deal in December, he was due to be sentenced in March and expected to serve four to seven years in prison.

Apparently a little too loving.

R.I.P But really, being into child porn is not a "mistake." The porn viewer is buying and getting off on pictures where children were forced to pose like adults, for the sake of a dollar, where children have been abused. I am sorry that this guy killed himself, but I don't like to see child porn played down as if it were just a temporary minor mistake in judgment.

According to the court documents - first obtained by The Blast - Salling 'downloaded thousands of images of child pornography,' between April and December 2015.

The papers state he used software to mask his IP address, but showed some of his collection to an adult woman on at least two occasions. That woman ultimately reported him to police.

Following the tip-off Salling was arrested at his home in Sunland, California in December 2015 where police found a cache of explicit images on his computer depicting children as young as 10 in sexual situations.

They later discovered more than 50,000 photos and videos on his laptop and another 4,000 on a flash drive

Lt. Andrea Grossman, of the LAPD, described some of the lewd images depicting grade school-aged girls as 'disturbing,' reported the New York Daily News at the time.

Anyone definitely involved in child porn deserves what punishment they get.

That being said, I hate these types of stories because I don't believe they could ever prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person being convicted committed the crime.

All wifi routers are vulnerable. Your computer can be hacked from online with just your ip. Someone sufficiently determined can find out the ip you are using. Someone who has access to your computer can easily get in and upload or place whatever they want on your computer.

Anyone with the slightest provocation and access to your computer could destroy your life.

I will never trust one of these cases unless I hear there is evidence outside of what was obtained directly from a computer and I can't tell that from this article.

I don’t think anyone could hack data onto a flash drive? It doesn’t seem possible, anyway, but I’m definitely not a computer expert.
