Kasich slams Republican attacks on FBI, Justice Department
BY BRANDON CARTER - 01/31/18 08:10 PM EST
Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) slammed GOP attacks on the FBI and Justice Department in a speech Wednesday, comparing attacks on the agencies and the press to actions of bullies and autocrats.
The first thing that happens when people want to be bullies and theyre autocrats or whatever it is, is that they go to restrict the press, Kasich said, according to the Columbus Dispatch. So, do all the complaining you want, but thank God we have the press.
To me, it is just one of those essential things that we have in our country that is so important for the fabric of who we are as Americans," he continued.
Kasich also decried rhetoric aimed at the hallmark institutions of the DOJ and FBI.

(34,119 posts)He is one scary guy. I have heard a lot of people talk about him as someone they would certainly vote for. When I ask them what they know about him they say the like what they hear on the TV. Man, are they in for an awakening.

(62,448 posts)Kasich is only "moderate" in that he isn't as flaming crazy as some of the rest. But his policies are right in line with the Walkers and Scotts and pence of the party.
He just plays the media better.

(2,781 posts)Don't let his approval rating fool you. He's got a lot of problems here in Ohio will likely sink any hope he has of going toe-to-toe with Trump, assuming that Trump is even still President then and not Pence or someone else.
On top of a huge charter school scandal that just erupted days ago, and his job development privatization scheme that should be, his own Lt. Gov is trying to distance herself from him in her own bid to succeed him in this year's gubernatorial race, if that says anything.
Kasich is a long shot at best. Of course, so was Trump, but he played up his existing name recognition and notoriety for all that it was apparently worth.
In contrast, Kasich lost in every presidential primary but Ohio's.
He's been a weak governor, and is an even weaker candidate for POTUS.

(19,204 posts)either Democrat or Republican that doesn't have an ego. Their egos are the primary reason for any of them entering the political arena. There are egos, and then there are destructive egos. Donald Trump is an example of a destructive ego. Kasich also has a destructive ego as well, but nowhere near the destructive ability of Trump. Trump is in a league of his own.

(92,381 posts)about it that he didn't vote for Trump in the general election, and his disdain for trump.
Whether his challenge would be successful or not is another question.

(37,648 posts)These guys come out of a run for President with their pockets full. Not the campaign donations. But they command big bucks for appearances and speeches, they can write books and articles. And they are more nationally known.
Kasich wouldn't stand a chance in a run against Trump. And he risks alienating his party members, because they'd be ticked with the interference.

(92,381 posts)a "team player" as you put it.
According to the polls among republican voters, trump is not popular at all, and Kasich would beat trump in a hypothetical NH primary poll.
One factor that allowed Trump to get the republican nomination was because they had so many candidates running for the republican nomination who stayed in too long, and they killed each other off. Around 30% of the republicans are die hard trump voters, the rest would vote for someone else.
I disagree with your assessment that he would be doing it only for fame and money. He has definite presidential ambitions, and I would add Romney to that list also.
I do not think trump is a shoe in among republicans in 2020 at all, and I would not be surprised if he was challenged in 2020 and lost the republican primary.
The important thing for Democrats to do is stay focused on 2018, and nominate a candidate that can unite the party in 2020.

(37,648 posts)I think Kasich really would have no chance. Most of the party would get behind Trump, if he's still in power. That's what parties do. They might ask him to step aside, though.
Same thing with Carter. They asked him to step aside, but when he wouldn't, they got behind him. But I guess they didn't hold it against Teddy, when he challenged him, anyway. If Teddy had run, who knows...he might have won. Then there would have not been a Reagan. The world would be different.

(43,276 posts)Can no longer be denied. The talk shows are abuzz. Newspaper editorials, headlines. Trump and his administration are knowingly and deliberately not sanctioning Russia, he has Republican allies, sitting congressmen, a news channel, all spouting the same line. All their dirty tricks to discredit the FBI and CIA and IC, the Republican memo, all came to naught. Some were laughable. Twitter buzz is that Putin, Snowden, Wikileaks/Assange, RIS, parts of FNC, Hannity, and Trump are all on the same side. There is no longer any doubt at all. Everyone knows it. At some point the lid will blow off and it's unpredictable at that point. He can only stay in power by rigging elections or cancelling elections. With foreign help.
We have been invaded politically. Our sovereignty is violated. All the deregulation and land and tax giveaways are part of the payoff.
Some thought the Cold War ended. Someone informed the Soviets, but forgot to tell Russia.
