Illinois governor candidate stands by ad blasted as racist

Source: The Washington Post

A Republican lawmaker trying to unseat Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner is standing by a campaign ad that has been blasted as racist and homophobic, despite the state party chairman’s call for her to stop airing it and apologize.

State Rep. Jeanne Ives, a social and fiscal conservative, said the ad that began airing this weekend illustrates the GOP governor’s “chosen constituents based on the policy choices he made” and primary voters need to know about his record.

The ad features actors portraying, among others, a transgender woman, an African-American Chicago Teachers Union member and a woman wearing a pink hat associated with women’s marches. Each of them thanks Rauner for his policies. The ad is a take on a Rauner campaign ad in which GOP governors from neighboring states thanked Illinois’ Democratic House speaker for policies they say pushed people and jobs to their states.

The actor in Ives’ ad who is playing the deep-voiced transgender woman, wearing a dress that reveals chest hair, says “Thank you for signing legislation that lets me use the girl’s bathroom.” The woman in the pink hat says “Thank you for making all Illinois families pay for my abortions.”

Rep. Jeanne Ives

Republicans can't function at all if they can't cheat and attack.

Maybe she'll defeat Rauner in the primary, perhaps opening the way for a Democratic victory. That would be nice!

5. You'll notice they also depicted the transgendered woman as stereotypically "New York".

(and we all know what THAT is a euphemism for to Midwestern conservatives).

They knew they couldn't directly play to the anti-Semites yet(they're gonna roll that out if T___p gts a second term, when they're sure no one can stop them anymore), but they feel they can be a lot less subtle about it than they use to have to be.

I hope some other repiggies in other states go after each other, too. They all deserve each other.

Her district includes much of the western suburbs of Chicago, including BillyGrahamland.

The scary thing is, this could get worse. Rauner is still going to have to wrestle Ives for the deplorable vote so he'll probably do some dog whistling of his own in response to this ad.

...are in the suburbs, especially the far suburbs. They live there because of white flight and I see them on Facebook all of the time, making racist comments about Chicago.

I'm on the eastern edge of a federal congressional district that extends over much of this same territory Ives serves in the IL senate. When I go to Raja K's Facebook page I just cringe at some of the posts from folks out in the western area.
