Scoop: Rob Porter telling different story than John Kelly

Source: Axios

Jonathan Swan, Mike Allen 33 mins ago

White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter is telling associates that some senior White House officials strongly encouraged him to "stay and fight," and claims he "never misrepresented anything" to Chief of Staff John Kelly.

Why it matters: This White House has a culture problem, starting at the top. The natural instinct is to defend/deny and show scant, if any, concern for the women alleging misconduct and harm. And when the going gets tough internally, the other natural instinct is to blame everyone but yourself.

Porter has said nothing publicly since his departure from the White House on Thursday, following accounts of domestic violence from his two ex-wives.

But a coordinated defense is forming for Kelly on how he handled the matter, and Porter is telling a different story.

He lost his interim clearance on January 15 and was not going to be approved for the full clearance necessary to do his job. This does not seem to have stopped Kelly from keeping him on, however, which means that not only is Kelly's clearance at risk, but he potentially committed a crime. As did any other cleared person who allowed Porter access to classified information. It is the responsibility of the person with clearance to ensure that classified information does not end up in the hands of someone without the required level of access and the need to know.

WH, the GOPs spill over is what is causing the rest of the country much stress, insecurity, and economic damage. Dysfunctional from the top trickling downward.

It doesn't matter who is chief of staff, the WH will still be fucked up. Get these unpatriotic assholes out.

And trump. They probably both knew about his troubles from the start. Has trump tried to pressure or do anything towards the FBI to get him approved? Is this another reason trump has targeted the FBI, because they wouldn't let his security clearance issues go? That has been his pattern.
