Police say Jackson Middle School, near Massillon, is on lockdown Tuesday and that the students and staff are safe.

The school official tells The Independent newspaper that the student is being treated at a hospital.

Pimples. Puberty.

The list goes on and on. Do we really want to add a gun to that mix? Well the NRA culture has.

#neveragain.

sleep cycles of adolescents are well documented. they need more sleep than toddlers and their circadian clocks move toward going to sleep later and waking earlier.
all we have to do is change the times that kids go to school.
sleep deprivation is the most easily treated cause of depression and other mental and emotional problems. we could change it w the stroke of a pen.

but no....

stay up even later the next night ..... then later and later every night, until the point I was staying up all night and sleeping all day. I know this cos many years ago as an unemployed young adult thats exactly what happened !!! As an oldster now its a totally different problem - wake up early and cant get back to sleep. Just can't win.

and yeah, free running circadian clock is what you are talking about. treatable, and you usually outgrow it.
it nearly destroyed my son in high school. he had it very bad, it really sent him into a tail spin, trying to live on someone else's very unforgiving clock.

they could rerun 1st period classes at the end of the day, that costs a little, but would help a lot of kids w/o making every kid go to a different clock.

It's after the innocence of elementary school, but before the high school period where they begin to show the nascent inklings of a conscience.

In between they're pretty much devoid of any sort empathy and slaves to consumerism.

when I moved to another city, I saw these middle school kids every day after school! Chances are when I talk to friends back there, I will know the family or even the 7th grader. I’ve been nauseous all day at work.

My kids are now teaching in other cities but every time these senseless acts of violence happen I go through a soul saddening fear...For the kids suffering through this trauma and fear for MY kids, who are the kind of teachers who would do anything to save their students.
