MIT to applicants: Being disciplined for protesting guns wont affect admission

Source: Boston Globe

Admissions officials at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said Thursday that if college applicants are disciplined for leaving class and joining in on the growing number of national high school protests against gun violence, it won’t negatively affect their chances of getting into the renowned Cambridge school.

As students frustrated with a lack of gun control measures mobilize in the wake of the deadly Parkland, Fla., school shooting last week, which killed 17 people, some high schools across the country have threatened to suspend those who participate in the walkouts.

(It was an officer of the MIT Campus Police, who are regular academy-trained officers and organized as a regular police dept. under MA law, not a security guard as that term is normally used.)

They actually shot him just to get a second (or third ?) gun.

I want to see this proclamation from others. Of course state universities like mine would face a shitstorm of outrage by the right wing legislature which funds them.

Hope other institutions follow their lead.

These students are just exercising their democratic rights.

I hope other colleges and universities also speak out in support, because the gun carnage in America extends from preschools to universities, and it has to stop.

I know of one high school principal in NH who said the kids won't be disciplined for a walk-out and I'm curious to hear what others will do.

I have a very determined and active granddaughter who is worried about her NHS membership being revoked, so this is pretty important.
