Trump lawyers seek to offer Mueller an interview in exchange for wrapping up probe: report

Source: The Hill

Attorneys for President Trump are reportedly considering asking special counsel Robert Mueller to set a hard end date for his investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election as one of the preconditions for an interview with president.

While Trump's lawyers remain split on the terms of such a deal, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday, they also want Mueller to agree to parameters on the scope of such an interview.

One idea being floated is that Mueller would agree to wrap up the probe within 60 days of interviewing Trump.

Trump has said he is "looking forward" to speaking with the special counsel's team, but his lawyers have repeatedly emphasized that he would only agree under certain conditions.

BUSH: "You know, I don't 'testify' - but I'll be glad to sit down and talk with them."

Bush did "sit down & talk with them"..along with Dick Cheney, and neither one was "under oath"

The 9/11 commission was convened by congress but they had to schlepp over to the WH so Bush could look more imposing in the Oval Office. Even though we supposedly have three separate and coequal branches of government, Cheney thumbed his nose at congress and downplayed the interview, not as legal testimony, but something akin to a little coffee tete a tete amongst old pals. Bush and Cheney acted like eastern potentates and made it sound like they were doing the commission a favor just by deigning to speak to them.

Likewise, Trump sees himself as some fictional, mighty warlord, inviolate and untouchable, so it should come as no surprise that he's trying the tilt the outcome and further hobble Mueller's investigation.

Robert Mueller's team doesn't leak. Trump's attorneys are trying to float a balloon to show that Trump can be "reasonable." When Mr. Mueller actually tries to schedule an interview with Trump, his lawyers can say the Mr. Mueller is unreasonable.

At that point, of course, Mr. Mueller simply has one of his grand juries issue a subpoena.

Trump cannot be interviewed or even give testimony because he will perjure himself. The man lies like I breathe. His lawyers know their client. It will be fascinating to watch this play out.

Ideally, they should also be submitted with plenty of time for Drumpf to learn some handy phrases. "I don't remember." "I just don't know." "I can't recall." "I invoke my right to take the Beauregard on that question."

If that many answers prove to be confusing or too hard to remember, just the first two, then. Also....there will be no limit on how often the "Phone A Friend" option can be invoked.
