Michael Cohen dismisses claims of email as proof that Trump knew about payment to porn star to buy her silence

The lawyer for Stormy Daniels says emails show President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen was using his Trump Organization email just days before the 2016 election as he arranged the wire transfer of a $130,000 payment to the adult film star to remain silent about her alleged 2006 affair with Trump.
Michael Avenatti, who provided the emails to ABC News, alleges that the use of Cohens Trump.org email further supports his position that Trump was aware of the payment to Daniels whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford. "We're one step closer to demonstrating that the assertion by Cohen and the White House that President Trump knew nothing about this is ridiculous," Avenatti told ABC News Tom Llamas on Friday. Cohen dismissed these allegations.
Mr. Avenatti has clearly allowed his 15 minutes of fame to affect his ludicrous conclusions. The earth-shattering uncovered email between myself and the bank corroborates all my previous statements; which is I transferred money from one account at that bank into my LLC and then wired said funds to Ms. Cliffords attorney in Beverly Hills, California.
How Mr. Avenatti or the media at large believes this to be breaking news is a mystery to me, Cohen told ABC News. When asked where the $130,000 sent to Daniels attorney came from, Cohen told ABC News the funds were taken from my home equity line and transferred internally to my LLC account in the same bank.

Michael Cohen *borrowed* money to pay off Trump's porn star fling. Cohen should ask for a raise.

(19,204 posts)If Cohen is saying he made this decision AND payment to Daniels without Trump's knowledge, he's probably going to be disbarred as well as having campaign finance charges and other criminal charges brought against him. I think he's opened himself up to questioning from Mr. Mueller's investigation as well. Maybe some of these things, all of them, or none of them, but Cohen's reputation is certainly down the shitter after all this. Everyone knows Trump will cut him loose and throw him under any passing bus in the blink of an eye if it's to his advantage.

(5,271 posts)She was not entering into a contract with Cohen but thought her contract was with Trump. If as Cohen alleges, Trump didn't know about the contract or the payment, then how could he have been legally representing Trump? How could she have entered into a legitimate binding contract with Trump if Cohen misrepresented to her that Trump was a knowing party to the contract but Trump knew nothing about it and Trump never signed the contract? And if Cohen never discussed any of this with Trump and never got Trump's approval, that would seem to be malpractice by misrepresenting himself as agent for Trump.
So I agree with her lawyer, that Cohen's position is ludicrous.

(14,494 posts)if they've handled other lawsuits in the same sloppy fashion.
Cohen (or other): This contractor is going to sue you for non-payment.
Trump: Oh shit. You deal with it.
Cohen: OK, done deal. Go play golf and get laid.
