Todd Akin Piers Morgan Interview Fail: Embattled Senate Candidate Bails On CNN Host
Source: Huffington Post
The six-term Missouri GOP congressman, a candidate for U.S. Senate, apparently bailed on a planned interview with CNN's Piers Morgan, leaving the host to berate him as a "gutless little twerp" Monday evening.
Akin's troubles began Sunday when he suggested during a television interview that women who are victims of "legitimate rape" are biologically unlikely to become pregnant -- attributing the dubious science to "doctors." Numerous Republicans have called on the congressman to withdraw from his challenge against Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Akin has apologized for his remarks, and insisted he'll stay in the race. However, the media firestorm shows little sign of abating after two days.
Staring at the empty chair, a nonplussed Morgan issued this challenge to Akin: "Congressman, you have an open invitation to join me in that chair whenever you feel up to it, because if you don't keep your promise to be on the show, then you are what we would call in Britain a gutless little twerp."

When Roy Hattersley (a senior Labour MP) failed to turn up on the show in 1993 for the third time, he was rapidly replaced by something "imbued with much the same qualities and liable to give a similar performance" - a tub of lard. The team with the tub of lard won.

(184 posts)However, he never clarified his remark about this magical mysterious way women being brutally raped (as opposed to lovingly raped) can essentially nullify a pregnancy. I was hoping Pierce would get him to expound. So, raped women they use the magic of their bodies to prevent a pregnancy, at what point does this occur? If the woman's body acts on the fertilized ovum by rejecting it, the rape victim should be arrested for illegal abortion in Mr. Akins strange world. If she is able to prevent the fertilization of the egg from taking place, he should share that so other women may use it in non-rape situations. This all sounds very complicated and I would really like him to elaborate on this all day every day until I am satisfied with his answer which should be around November 7th.
Since he sits on the Science and Technology Committee, I am sure he is a bastion of information and he needs to share it.
