(CNN) The liberal group Patriot Majority launched a cable television ad campaign Tuesday going after the Koch brothers, who are major supporters of conservative and libertarian causes.
Patriot Majority said it was initially spending $500,000 to air the ads, and expects to spend more than a million dollars by the end of 2012.
"Billionaire oil tycoons Charles and David Koch and their special interest friends are $400 million to buy this year's elections and advance their agenda. What's their payback? Politicians who will pass laws that benefit special interests but hurt the middle class," a narrator in the minute-long spot says.
The ad claims the Koch brothers' donations to politicians are prompted by a desire for policies that would help them financially, including lowering tax rates for the wealthy and changing Medicare to allow private insurers to compete with the government-funded health program on an exchange.
The ad says those policies would hurt the middle class while lining wealthy people's pockets.

If the news media actually did their job there might not be a need for this.

(1,309 posts)I guess I worry about the ability of the electorate to connect this corruption to the republican party. I suspect since they are a non profit they cannot make that connection to the GOPdirectly. But there is nothing stopping us democrats from doing so. Lets spread it everywhere and tell everyone also that it the republican leaders who ae the servants of the Koch Brothers. Here in Ohio during isue 2, I found the discussion of the Koch Brother money coming in a very very persuasive argument to repeal senate bill 5 and vote no on issue 2. Lets use it everywhere and be very direct in linking the Kochs to the republican leadership and representatives.

(4,835 posts)The biggest concern I have about the Koch brothers controlling our politicians is that they are slowly ruining the environment and stifling development of alternative sustainable energies.
It is through these issues that we will restore the middle class. The ad doesn't mention what policies they support that threaten the middle class.
I don't think they care about the middle class at all; which is much different than actively seeking to destroy the middle class.
I'd rather they deal with a specific bill that they support rather than a bunch of vague assertions.

(1,435 posts)Rachel has been exposing the Koch Bros for a couple years, some people are getting it.
She needs a larger audience than MSNBC to educate people. Big Ed and Rev Al are also doing a great job but have same audience problem. Cenk, Elliot Spitzer and Jennifer Granholm on Current TV are also doing a great job. I watch them all but if the general public would watch only two of the six regularly they would make better informed decisions with facts not spin. Need to attract more diverse audience, not just preaching to the choir.
With both MSNBC and Current TV, progressives are gaining market share; nice to see Rachel on Meet The Press now and then, larger, audience there. Big Ed has the passion and credibility to persuade a lot of people. I'm listening to his show now on Sirius Sat Radio ch 127 noon to 3 pm, then Rev AL.

(94,601 posts)...The Koch Brothers will rile up the liberal base (as does George Soros to conservatives), but undecided voters don't follow this stuff.
