Todd Akin digs in ahead of dropout deadline

Source: Politico

Hours before a crucial day-end deadline, Todd Akin is showing no signs of heeding mounting
pressure from Republicans to drop out of the Missouri Senate race for the good of the party.

Akin only seemed to dig in Tuesday, releasing a TV ad apologizing for his comments on “legitimate rape” that have imperiled Republican hopes of taking a must-win seat in their drive to reclaim the Senate this fall. Sources close to the six-term conservative Missouri congressman say he’s giving no serious thought to leaving the race against Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Republicans in Washington are watching nervously ahead of a 6 p.m. EDT deadline for Akin to drop out of the race so Missouri Republican leaders could easily pick a replacement. If he doesn’t leave the race before Tuesday evening, the process for dropping out becomes far more cumbersome: Akin would have to petition a court to get out of the race before Sept. 25. After that deadline,
Akin’s name will appear in the November ballot no matter what.

“The people from Missouri that elected me know that I’m not perfect,” he said in a Monday
evening statement. “We all make mistakes. When you make a mistake what you need to do is
tell people you’re sorry. Don’t try and hide it.”

A no work lobbying job? Flat out payment from Sheldon or the Kochs disguised in some way?

He's got them scared -- and I bet he will be paid to drop. It may be hard to,find the money trail, but it will be there..

All he did was express the viewpoint that abortion is murder, essentially. I think it's an immoral standpoint, but the GOP doesn't. If this is how they treat their loyalists, how can they expect to win?

The Republican Party needs your leadership, ignore all the cries from those pansy wimps wanting you to quit.

You're the man!

Thanks for the thread, Botany.
