Ryan: I've 'received assurances' Mueller won't be fired

Source: The Hill

BY MELANIE ZANONA - 03/20/18 11:04 AM EDT

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said he has received “assurances” that Robert Mueller won’t be fired, as questions swirl around whether President Trump will pull the plug on the special counsel.

“I received assurances that his firing is not even under consideration,” Ryan told reporters during his weekly news conference on Tuesday. “We have a system based upon the rule of law in this country, we have a justice system, and no one is above that justice system.”

While the White House insists that Mueller’s ouster is not in play, Trump has made a series of moves in the past week that have stepped up concern in Washington that he may move to fire Mueller and end the special counsel’s investigation into Russia interference in the 2016 election and possible ties to the Trump campaign.

The president ramped up his attacks on the Russia probe over the weekend, even calling out Mueller by name for the first time; he hired a longtime Washington lawyer who has suggested that the FBI is seeking to frame Trump; and Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired Andrew McCabe, the No. 2 official at the FBI and a longtime target of Trump.

He hasn't gotten any assurances directly from Trump. He's talking about Trump's previous public denials, no doubt! But whether private or public, such assurances are worthless!

We've all learned that with the Trump White House, every day is opposite day. He even said while he was campaigning, that he liked to keep people guessing. I suppose this could be what he meant - say one thing and do another, while laughing behind their backs.

The method being (per Tribe) "strangulation" rather than "kneecapping."
Here's his interview on Ari Melber last night: well worth watching.

A scorpion asks a frog to carry it across a river. The frog hesitates, afraid of being stung, but the scorpion argues that if it did so, they would both drown. Considering this, the frog agrees, but midway across the river the scorpion does indeed sting the frog, dooming them both. When the frog asks the scorpion why, the scorpion replies that it was in its nature to do so.

ofc i would not be surprised if Ryan was flat out lying, which is the best case scenario
any "assurances" from the Trump administration are as good as a promise that they're already trying to achieve the opposite
