For eighth year, voter ID amendment defeated in Legislature (NE)

LINCOLN — Another year, another frustration for backers of requiring voter identification in Nebraska.

For the eighth year in a row, supporters on Thursday fell short of cutting off debate and advancing a proposed constitutional amendment in the Nebraska Legislature.

State Sen. John Murante of Gretna, who introduced Legislative Resolution 1CA, said he is exploring the possibility of going directly to voters via an initiative petition drive.

"This is not the end of the discussion," he said. "There will come a day when the issue is taken out of the hands of legislators."

2. If you can't push wingnut policy through a wingnut state assembly after eight attempts

then you suck at your job and/or your proposed legislation stinks.

3. Repubs are persistent if nothing else.

Sadly that persistence often pays off for them.

4. I'm afraid the money will be there for the petitions to get a ballot intiative

just like the reinstating the death penalty one happened a few years ago. And I'm afraid if it's on the ballot, it will pass. Forget it Jake, it's Rickettstown.
