Dow futures indicate more than 350 point drop at market open after Trump threatens more tariffs
Source: CNBC
U.S. stock futures traded lower on Thursday night after President Donald Trump said he has asked the United States Trade Representative to consider $100 billion in additional tariffs against China.
As of 8:25 p.m. ET, the implied open for the Dow Jones industrial average was more than 350 points lower, after earlier tanking more than 400 points. The implied opens for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq were also in the red.
Markets have been jittery in recent sessions amid fears of a potential trade war between the U.S. and China.

(32,006 posts)The market went up 200 points. Anyone who looks at futures for daily Dow prices doesn't know the market. It is a horrible predictor of daily prices.

(7,143 posts)Futures are a reliable gauge for predicting the day's action. That's why they're called futures.
Yesterday's lunchtime reversal was a direct result of Larry Kudlow's assertions that no tariffs were imminent - rather, that they were "proposals" meant to engender "discussion". His job was to calm the markets which, as had been predicted by the various index futures, were plunging.
Probably best not to lecture others on their knowledge of the market (sic).

8. Dow futures which started the OP are a horrible predictor of daily Dow changes.
