'Concerned' Evangelicals Plan To Meet With Trump As Sex Scandals Swirl

Source: NPR

Heard on Morning Edition

SARAH MCCAMMON

As allegations continue to swirl about the president and a payout to a porn star to cover up a sexual encounter, evangelical leaders are organizing a sit-down with President Trump in June, four sources with knowledge of the planned meeting tell NPR.

"We're very concerned" about the allegations, said a leader of a faith-based ministry. The leader is involved in hosting the gathering, which organizers are aiming to take place June 19 at Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. The source said the combination of the Stormy Daniels sex-scandal allegations and Trump's continued reputation for divisive rhetoric could suppress evangelical turnout in the November 2018 elections.

"It is a concern of ours that 2018 could be very detrimental to some of the other issues that we hold dear," like religious liberty and restricting abortion rights, the source noted. The source, like the others with knowledge of the event, spoke to NPR on the condition of anonymity so as to not jeopardize the meeting.

Trump has denied Daniels' allegations. Speaking with reporters on Air Force One on Thursday, he also denied knowing about the payment his attorney, Michael Cohen, made to Daniels days before the 2016 presidential election. She alleges she was paid $130,000 not to talk about the alleged affair.

Keep that deep cover till it's clear which way the wind blows.

Not that he did this.
Not that he cheated on his wife (like he did the previous 2)
Not that he paid off a porn star to keep quiet.

Not any of that.

Just that their "issues" are at risk.

These people are human garbage.

What humble Christian preacher would fleece his congregation for thousand$ to attend a conference in the Trump luxury Hotel?

If my pastor would need to such spend thou$and$ at a conference to know Trump is a fraud, I would run from that church and its clueless leader.

Those who don't know Trump is a fraud deliberately don't want to know. Including American evangelicals who follow pastors like Franklin Graham who are accomplices to the fraud in the White House.

Trump is a typical, irreligious leader described in the Bible. His acceptance as "holy" by fraudulent preachers is also a theme repeated over and over in the Bible. And finally, the corrupt congregations who follow such a leader are vanquished in every Biblical story.

Putting aside whether my atheist friends can be more religious that 2018 Trumpgelicals, it is unquestionable that there is a harsh lesson for frauds who exploit their followers. And that lesson is if you follow an irreligious leader, you can't call yourself religious.

And in the end, the Satanic, Trump-like Biblical characters meet a fitting end. That is the Bible, except for evangelicals who read it with their eyes closed.

There are evangelicals for whom Trump's actions and behavior will be too much for them.
They may never vote for a Democrat but they may just not vote at all, and that hurts both Trump and the GOP. That's a victory for the Left so we need to take what we can get and move on from there.
Yes, evangelicals are certainly rife with hypocrisy but most are not going to change just because the Left condemns them of it because they consider us to be not of god anyways.
I reckon none of us would change because the right might condemn us of hypocrisy.
So knock a few percentage points off evangelical support for Trump and that's a good thing.

Nothing will change for these thieves because they are "all in" and don't give a shit that he's a criminal traitor as long as they get to discriminate - that's all they want.

Catholic church is filthy rich and has immense power which is why this will not happen anywhere in the world, not just in US. What could possibly be changed is enforcement of the no political speech from tax free churches, but that won't happen either in this environment. If drumpf is impeached for criminal conduct, and dems take over House and Senate, Pence would still veto it so would need 2/3 support to over-ride which is very unlikely as well.

My fondest wish is Mueller will get convictions on drumpf, Pence, Sessions, Flynn, Manafort, Ryan and McConnell as all are guilty of conspiring with a hostile foreign country to steal the election - only then would major change be possible with this situation. I do realize, btw, this is just a beautiful dream.

If anyone thinks these hucksters work for Drumf for free they are beyond naive. In my own opinion they are nothing but cons covering their white nationalist leainings with the "pro life" sheet. That way they can avoid some of the social stigma of being up front racists and just say I'm pro life. I'm sure the Dolt promised them more $ to keep them on his team.

Go back in time, not cheat on his wife, pay the women off and then lie about it?

The expiration date for their concern about the impact a cheating, lying, molesting horndog President would have on their political agenda was the day the Access Hollywood tape came out.
