Trump denies he is considering replacing Sessions with Pruitt

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAN FABIAN - 04/06/18 11:01 AM EDT

President Trump on Friday denied reports that he is considering replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions with Scott Pruitt, whom he said is “doing a great job” leading the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

In a tweet, the president lashed out at the media for "pushing hard on a story" that he had considered replacing his attorney general with his embattled EPA chief.

Minutes before the president’s tweet, CNN aired a report stating that Trump has privately discussed the Cabinet switch as recently as this week, even as Pruitt facing mounting ethics scrutiny.

Trump has publicly defended Pruitt, even though his job as EPA administration is said to be in jeopardy.

Trump knows that Mueller is going to get him so he doesn't give a shit what anybody
thinks and he is gonna try to replace Sessions w/Pruitt for however a short of period
of time with just one job to do and that is to fire Mueller and Rosenstien

1) Many Republicans would be angry that he pushed Sessions out
2) Most of the Pruitt baggage that is now known wasn't there when he was confirmed for EPA.

I can not imagine him getting a single Democratic vote. John McCain is not in DC. Trump would need every single Republican to get a 50 / 49 vote. I bet many might be telling him "no" now -- so he would have to be concerned.

him Pruitt's only job would be to fire Mueller.

What I worry about is that governors who resist may find that their guards are then the ones called up for all the Middle Eastern wars.

... a dog whistle to his racist base because it is all about stopping "brown people."

Trump knows that Mueller is closing in and he wants to stoke up "civil unrest" by
his mouth breathing base.

But on the good side I have seen @ least 3 governors (1 top) who have said no to
Trump using their state's national guard. Trump might have to show a real problem
or emergency before he is allowed to over ride the governors control over their states
national guard.

I'd be surprised an ethically-challenged jerk like Pruitt could pass muster, even with this Republican rubber-stamp Congress.

As acting AG, however, he could fire Mueller and/or Rosenstein, couldn't he?

Pompeo needs to be confirmed - as does his replacement for CIA. If Trump moved Pruitt, he would need to be confirmed as AG and someone else as head of the EPA. This as Congress heads into the midterms - meaning they will do little beyond July. August is usually a month they are off - presumably in their states. They are back for a period in September/October, but this is also when a third of the Senate is running for re-election. I'm loving that Pruitt seems doomed to go down in disgrace plus Mueller has gotten too far along with the deadly serious aspects of counterintelligence going after Russian oligarchs and conspirators aggressively at the same time that FBI announced Russia not only "meddled" in election, but hacked into our vital infrastructure.
