Georgia sheriffs sign: If you kill someone, we might kill you back

Source: Atlanta Journal Constitution

Georgia Sheriff Mike Jolley’s new welcome sign comes with a threatening warning for visitors: “Our citizens have concealed weapons. If you kill someone, we might kill you back. We have ONE jail and 356 cemeteries. Enjoy your stay!”

The Harris County sheriff put the sign in front of his headquarters Tuesday and told Patch.com the message is meant to be “tongue-in-cheek.” He wants visitors to come into town and say, “Wow.”

According to an AJC investigation into gun violence in the state last year, people in Georgia are twice as likely than those in New York to be shot to death.

Recent data from Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also found that Georgia’s gun deaths have been steadily rising for more than a decade. In 2016, Georgia ranked fourth highest with 1,571 deaths.

There are a couple counties in GA who have done things like this before too. And a couple "tough guy" sheriff videos out there too. Like high schoolers or something.
But if they're going to go to shooting stats because of this sign, then they should expand on the figures and show use who is doing the shooting and who is being shot, compared to the same stats in NY

He's not saying this about the sherriff's Department; it's about the population at large.

BTW, there aren't 356 cemeteries in Harris County, GA. https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery-browse/USA/Georgia/Harris-County?id=county_454

Alarming number of murders, but lets face it, murderers are not a significant percent of the population. So tourists, and the vast majority of others, have to read this threatening message anyways. If I were a tourist, I'd be frightened because the sign implies there are many murderers just waiting to do their thing, and many other hair triggered folks concealing weapons.

But crap like this is a real turnoff for tourism.
