Grassley Appeals To Trump: Firing Mueller Would Be Presidential 'Suicide'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Matt Shuham | April 10, 2018 10:52 am

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said Tuesday morning that it would be “suicide” for President Donald Trump to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.

-snip-

“I think it would be suicide for the President to fire him,” Grassley said in a brief interview clip aired on CNN. “I think the less the President says about this whole thing, the better off he will be. And I think that Mueller is a person of stature and respected and I respect him. Just let the thing go forward.”

Grassley made the same comment, nearly word for word, to Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo a couple hours earlier. “I have confidence in the Mueller, the President ought to have confidence in Mueller,” Grassley said. “And I think to answer your question, it would be suicide for the President to want— to talk about firing Mueller. The less the President said on this whole thing, the better off he would be, the stronger his presidency would be.”

Grassley added, perhaps in an attempt to communicate directly with the President, that Mueller “would appreciate being fired so he would have an excuse for getting out of [the probe],” which Grassley said “looks like a dead end,” in terms of evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia.

If the GOP finally puts country ahead of self-interest, no matter what trump* does, now, he's toast. But only if.

Well--that's the problem. "The President" (choke, gag) knows his campaign was criminal, his presidency is a sham, his cabinet is crooked as hell, that he has accepted help from Putin and his henchmen, and that his entire business career has been propped up by American and Russian Mafia, et al.
He has absolute confidence that it is all coming to light.

Putin knows it, all democrats know it, all non insane republicans (admittedly a very small grp) know it.

And yet the crime boss in charge rolls on. When is this horrendous charade going to end?

Are we all waiting for the Blue Tsunami in the fall before the hammer drops on Herr Dump?

Republicans could attempt to save themselves by impeaching "Shitler", but as you mentioned the sane ones are a small group or already working in the investigation (FBI, DOJ); he could resign the presidency because he knows he will be indicted and wants to get some of the daily media attention off his crimes; he could be indicted while still usurper in the White House; or the Democrats will show up in such numbers in November there would be no credible way to hack the election and "Herr Dump" will be completely neutered and left with only his daily dog and pony show he performs for attention and self-delusion. His presidency would be over in November 2020 even if Democrats did not impeach him and if he wasn't indicted yet (sitting president) he would be then.
Take your pick or add another option.

the end is going to be messy for us all.

If he had a brain, Donny two scoops would take a trip to mother Russia and seek asylum and protection from US prosecution of his numerous crimes from his employer Putin.

But no, its going to be maximum insanity from the orange shitgibbon and his cult followers. SMH

I would bet Putin will put as much daylight as he can between himself and "Donny two scoops", and "if he had a brain" is useless speculation--he doesn't and unless one can be grown in a petri dish or from stem cells he never will.

The grifter-in-chief has no one to blame but himself at this point. He is victim of his own greed, lust for power and sex, and his unrestrained ego. He actually thought he could rule like a king here in the U.S. and of an international organization under a coveted Trump brand. His aspirations have turned both to dead fish. His brand is becoming more toxic with each day.

I can't help but wonder what his kids talk about between themselves.

I just hope the democratic party can neuter Dear Leader after the fall elections then destroy his presidency in 20, if he's still in office at that time.

If Cheeto fires Mueller, the political backlash will make the tsunami sweep the GOP from power and then we get subpoena power. The GOP will have endure the steady drip of Democratic subpoenas revealing everything Cheeto has done anyway. Then 2020 comes with the wind at the back of our party.

Has no idea what they have on him or Cohen, and what caused them to do a no knock search on Cohen, and saying its disgraceful without knowing all the circumstances is just another stupid trump trick to claim or suggest it was illegal in some way. HE has no grounds for removal of Mueller, and it was carried out lawfully with many signing off on it he appointed. This is making trump look even more guilty, and more corrupt. After they get all the information , this will blow it wide open with indictments, and more searches. His meltdown was signs of desperation, and fear. He knows what he may have that they will find out about now.

Taking his own life was the only option left to him to retain his own sense of power. By killing himself, he not only determined his own fate, he also metaphorically killed the whole world. That is because, without him to see it, it ceased to exist.

Trump firing Mueller will be a mortal blow to the Republican Party. That's the real fear of those holding power under its aegis.

But, hey, they gave a hammer to a child, so if he smashes everything to pieces, they shouldn't be surprised.

As for how Trump will handle his downfall, one can only speculate. Perhaps his delusional world view will protect him someway by convincing him that he is the World's Most Innocent And Greatest Suffering Victim.

Or his health will finally incompacitate him completely. A heart attack may kill him; a stroke may put him beyond the reach of the law to censure or punish. In the latter scenario, it will be someone else's fault and he will nobly step aside to spare his family the sorrow of losing him to the cruel excesses of the evil Democrats.

Chuck, you are full of it! The R Congress won't do anything if Trump fires Mueller. Don't kid yourself!

Why won't they pass legislation protecting Mueller? It would be easier than dealing with the fallout from an actual firing.

He's doing the job he was hired to do - and is hardly working alone, there's a whole team of career prosecutors, investigators and legal experts working together - Mueller is only the leader and public face of the investigation.
