NEW YORK (AP) - Unlimited wireless data is back. After sliding off the menu of cellphone plans, data plans with no caps are making a comeback at smaller wireless companies trying to compete with AT&T and Verizon.
T-Mobile USA, the nation's fourth-largest cellphone company, said Wednesday that it will start selling an unlimited-data plan again on Sept. 5, after stopping sales of such plans early last year. A day earlier, No. 5 carrier MetroPCS cut the price of its unlimited-data plan as a promotion for a limited time.
The moves by T-Mobile USA and MetroPCS, neither of which sells the iPhone, come as their three larger rivals are thought to be gearing up to begin selling the iPhone 5 in a month or so.
No. 3 carrier Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) already has an unlimited-data plan and credits that with helping it attract customers for its smartphones.

(53,661 posts)I have to begin all calls with:
"Don't get upset if it goes dead, I'm not hanging up on you. I'll call you back. If the battery is still going..."
I now get 'No Service' messages and guess, what, I haven't moved! Same phone, same place, and the service goes in and out.
And supposedly all the rest are worse now. And there's a cell transmission mast across the road!
Help! I'm being repressed by the system!

(6,890 posts)But AT&T offers this product called Microcell. Around $200, Microcell connects your broadband to your mobile phone. I think Verizon offers a similar product.

(53,661 posts)I'm trying to keep my expenses down as low as I can. There was an iPhone plan for $50+ a month, but I can't commit to it yet.
My broadband is at the house and it's $50+. Can't see spending it twice any time soon.
Thanks for the info, I'll remember it when I do an upgrade or change up, though!

(135 posts)The day I got my Blaze smartphone and connected it to my WIFI at home it got internet and free phone calls without adding anything to my plan. I'm on the Value Plan for $35 per month and I have unlimited data and texts and 500 mins per month with unlimited nights and weekends. I've been with T-Mobile for almost a decade and have always been very happy with the phones, the network, and the customer service.

(38,958 posts)but noticed more dropped calls and bad reception of late. They still seem to have the best rates going, I would love an iPhone but for now I will keep my service with them as it seems they are okay.
