No Democrat in 3rd District Race Means Yoder Runs Unchallenged

Source: Fox 4 (not Fox news)

Congressman Yoder’s nude swim in the Sea of Galilee in Israel has been overshadowed by his fellow Congressman Todd Akin’s comment about rape and abortion. But you aren’t hearing a lot about Yoder’s misstep from his democratic opponent because he doesn’t have one.
One national news article in the Daily Kos, a political web site, says that Kansas Democrats should be embarrassed they couldn’t put anyone’s name on the ballot against Yoder because that means no one was in a position to try to take advantage of the skinny dipping incident. But the Kansas Democratic Party says it wasn’t for lack of trying.
State Senator David Haley (D-Kansas City, KS) agrees Democrats should be embarrassed they have no one running against Yoder.
“That’s a concern, that’s a failure on the part of the Kansas Democratic Party to not field a qualified candidate,” he says.

Redistricting made the district rather red as Yoder won 59% of the vote in 2010. Yoder has a long history of controversy, including possible drunk driving (he refused the test and paid a $165 fine as a result). It looks like he got special treatment too.

2009 traffic stop
In February 2009, Yoder plead guilty to refusing a roadside preliminary Breathalyzer test, following a 2:31 a.m. traffic stop on the K-10 expressway. Yoder was pulled over for speeding and, after declining the officer's request to take a roadside breath test, Yoder took and passed a field sobriety test. The officer cited Yoder for speeding and for refusing to take the breathalyzer test, and then let Yoder drive himself home. In a plea agreement, the speeding charge was dropped. Yoder pleaded guilty to refusing law enforcement's request for a breath test and paid a $165 fine

in exchange for the independent's agreement to join the Dem caucus if elected.

You'd think somebody might be willing to do that now, given the changed circumstances.

Served 4 times left the party saying they were running people off, who didn't toe the party line, whatever that means. In that area, no matter how much progressives decry it, you probably can't get a liberal elected no matter how great we may think it is. And these guys having the majority have made a tremendous difference since 2010.
A very bad one as they won't work with moderate or liberal Democrats at all.

Even if there is not a snowballs chance in ....... There should at the very least be a name on the ballot. People deserve a choice and I blame the Party for not making sure that there wasn't a name on the ballot.

...Howard Dean, as DNC Chair did not pick Candidates, nor did he ensure that they existed. He ensured that State Parties had funding and support to help elect candidates that were running.

It took me all of five minutes to find out that in the 2008 election in Arkansas, none of the House seats were contested by the non-incumbent Party. I'm willing to bet that I'll find similar examples in Texas and elsewhere.

This is a national database of farm subsidy recipients, queried for family-name of Yoder. Maybe someone could download it and filter for Kansas, but you can just page through it and see how much the Yoder family is pulling in agriculture subsidies:

http://farm.ewg.org/addrsearch.php?search_input_text=Yoder&search_input_image.x=13&search_input_image.y=6

Recall that our state was the "home" of Bob Dole, of Archer Daniels Midland fame, and that our governor SBUSIDY-Sam Brownback got his start in political life as Kansas agricultural secretary, so Kevin's financial roots run really deep in this state and nationally.

EWG mentions that it's actually a rather small group of rich corporate Kansas "farmers", but let's put emphasis on corporate, which of course has ties outside of this state and with the farm bill stalled this year, they have even more motive to back Kevin.

And then there's Kevin's mentor, Brownback, who has deep ties to evangelicals across the nation:
