Mitt Romney says plan will achieve North American energy independence by 2020

Mitt Romney on Thursday will outline a plan that he projects would achieve North American energy independence by 2020 by opening new areas for offshore oil drilling, starting in Virginia and the Carolinas, and by empowering the states to lease federal lands for oil, coal and natural gas development.

Under the plan, environmental statutes and regulations would be removed or loosened to green-light more coal production and other industry priorities, and the United States would reach agreements for energy production with Canada and Mexico, including to build the Keystone XL Pipeline.

While President Obama has funneled federal dollars toward subsidies and loan guarantees for wind, solar and other green-
energy industries, Romney would spend more broadly on research for new energy technologies.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee plans to announce his agenda in a speech in Hobbs, N.M. His campaign advisers previewed the policies with reporters Wednesday afternoon.

rarely come in contact with that thing we call "reality".

Unless, that is, he plans to put the entire peon class into giant hamster wheels and hook us up to generators.

Yet, we are going to achieve energy independence? How, exactly?

Oh, I guess we have to wait until after the election before he will tell us.

So , we give oil companies 20 BILLION every year in FREE MONEY.. Companies like Exxon make 8 BILLION in PROFIT a QUARTER ).. The five largest oil companies reported a combined $140 billion in profit in 2011... We now export around 2 million barrels of crude oil a day .. and In 2011, U.S. refiners exported 117 million gallons per day of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other petroleum products. yet instead of demanding lower prices, Mitt wants to give them MORE of our oil and money so they can ship it over seas?
Same ole song and dance from the republicans YET AGAIN!

btw, 2020 ?
yeah, and ill make you a diamond out of coal over night just using my hands.

Oil and coal are the centerpieces of his plan.

The Romney policy, spelled out in a white paper and on a conference call with reporters on Wednesday, focuses on developing domestic fossil fuels like oil, gas and coal - in large part by shifting federal responsibilities to the states, and by expanding exploration and production nationwide. Romney will outline the policy in oil-rich New Mexico on Thursday.

The American attitude seems to be "I want things my way. I want unlimited guns, cheap gas to run to the corner for another beer, and huge vehicles to make up for my sexual shortfalls." At least it seems that way. We can only run out country dry faster with Romney's approach. Obama had the right idea, supporting green companies. Bad sense of timing, to support start up in the middle of a recession in progress. Oil is more than heat and gas. Oil is the heart of dies, medicines, clothes, and many other products. It should not be wasted on bubba trucks and suvs that could be mistaken for military armored vehicles. Why are people so resistant to the idea of living with their needs, not their fantasies?

My no-details plan gives everyone the option between a flying car and a flying unicorn. Humans will have colonized Mars by then and we will have the additional benefit of alien technology, which will increase corporate profits by an automatic 42 percent.

As long as Mitt is totally bullshitting, why can't he promise me a flying unicorn? That's what the people really want.
