Former FBI Director James Comey in a new interview railed against the Republican Party, saying he thinks the GOP has lost its way.
"The Republican Party has left me and many others," Comey, who was a registered Republican for most of his life, said during an interview on the ABC News podcast "Start Here" when asked whether he still considers himself a Republican in his "heart of hearts."
"I just think they've lost their way and I can't be associated with it."
Comey said he saw the change in the party take place starting with President Trump's campaign. He said the GOP has continued to change over the course of the Trump presidency.
"These people don't represent anything that I believe in," he said.
He added that he thinks the Republican Party now reflects "entirely Donald Trump's values."
"It doesn't reflect values at all. It's transactional, it's ego-driven, it's in service to his ego," Comey said.....................................

(11,257 posts)And the GOP has always been like this. It's just that before Trump they did a better job of using their inside voice.

He's the first one that made this political.
I will not buy his book and I'm waiting for his apology to the American public. His poor judgment cost the world.

(34,060 posts)about 22 minutes in: comey tries to explain what he did 11 days before election, saying he had two choices: speaking would be really bad, concealing would be catastrophic
about 23 minutes in: colbert points out comey was weighing that it was a certainty that it was really bad now (to release news 11 days before election) with "maybe people will be upset later"
brilliant.
maybe this is the wrong thread to add this (we'll call it an aside)
as for the republican party & comey
WAHHHHHHHH

(19,201 posts)he's not talking about himself, is he? Because what he said about Hillary a few days before the election was not said by someone who was ethical. That was something said by a partisan hack to ensure a fellow Republican won the Presidential election.
So fuck you, and the elephant you rode in on, Comey.
