The threats began shortly after Michael Hill revealed he is gay in October on National Coming Out Day.

Following months of harassment, the Nemaha Valley High School visual arts teacher and lifelong Kansan has abandoned his job and home state for the more welcoming environment of Palm Springs, Calif. “Things got ugly,” Hill said, “and I started to fear for my own well-being.”

A series of hate-filled letters told Hill his openly gay lifestyle wouldn’t be tolerated by the Seneca community. If he didn’t leave, one letter promised, the anonymous author would “take matters into my own hands.” His car tire was punctured with a screwdriver. He found “faggot” written in the dust on his car.

Hill said he reported the incidents to police, who couldn’t identify the culprit. He was too afraid to leave his apartment at night and suffered from severe mental stress.

Who the fuck wants to live in Red State areas. They're not as modern, they're not as classy, they're not as intelligent, they're filled with hateful morons...it's Third World quality of life in a nation that has so many cities and towns of First World joy..

I have the same issue with people from my own country (Puerto Rico) who move to red state areas and economically depressed parts of Florida...why? Fuck Florida...go to Massachusetts, parts of Texas, parts of NY, NJ, Connecticut, California, Vermont...towns and towns of great places with great neighborhoods and great jobs and large houses at very affordable prices...and they want to move to freaking Orlando or Tampa....

but he's kind of a pussy. I've been persecuted at least 2 times in my life (like heavy duty) and I didn't leave where I lived or was scared walking around. I walked armed and ready and lived my life.

But hey, if he's happier somewhere else, hope he landed well.
