2 GOP CONVENTION NIGHTS 'ARE DEFINITELY IN JEOPARDY'

Source: Huffington Post

Tropical Storm Isaac Threatens Republican National Convention

"Monday are Tuesday are definitely in jeopardy," said meterologist Bill Karins on MSNBC Thursday. "I don't see any way possible that Tampa's going to be completely missed at this point."

Aug 2012

... thanks to then crazy conservative commissioner Rhonda Storms (now running for property appraiser, to replace a sexual harasser), any displays of gay pride that involve use of governmental resources (roads, cops, sanitation) are forbidden. Occurred after a someone got offended over a library display celebrating gay pride, with books like "My Two Dads" ... the whole we've got to protect the children thing. So all Tamponians (Tampons?) cross the bay and come to St. Pete where the local government fully supports the pride weekend.

Monday, September 1, 2008

Scheduled speeches by U.S. President George W. Bush, U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney and U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman were canceled because of Hurricane Gustav.[3] An abbreviated meeting was scheduled for late afternoon to conduct business required under party rules. The remainder of the convention schedule was determined day by day depending on the nature of the storm

If the proceedings in Tampa are cancelled or postponed, it would buy them time to try and get away from the current focus on their rape / abortion fiasco, which befell them (hee-hee) at a very awkward time. As of now, Republicans cannot really focus on spinning their preferred set of economic issues. I would just as soon that the convention goes forward amidst all the mess, chaos, and hopefully infighting over "exceptions permitting abortion" that the GOP has visited upon itself.

It will take a stronger storm than Isaac, making landfall in a worst case scenerio, for storm surge start to flood downtown Tampa where the RNC is.
The realistic problems are heavy rain with accompanying street flooding, gusty winds, possible tornados, power and communications outages, and travel issues.

I grew us second guessing these storms, and it looks as if something's going to get hit unless a rare right turn happens. I hope it doesn't do terrible damage but I DO hope, since it's going somewhere, it costs the GOP as much poorly spent money as possible in trying to salvage things, and then the DNC makes much hay out of the gov't response in evacuation, assistance, etc. Of course there's Jeb Bush's response, which the RNC will make huge use of if it's not just wack.

I hope there is a god, because my faith has been shaken badly by american rethug/teaparty christians in this very mean election season. The visceral racial hate directed toward this man who is PRESIDENT!!!!! I mean mustard seed reflected my faith before all this hate, atomic particle reflects it now watching all the hate directed toward a black man who happens to be,PRESIDENT!!!!!

http://politics.heraldtribune.com/2012/08/22/hurricanes-messed-with-gop-convention-plans-in-2008-too/

...Four years ago, a pair of hurricanes in the Atlantic wrecked havoc on the opening of the Republican National Convention in Minnesota. Then-Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal canceled planned primetime speeches to stay in their home states to help with emergency preparations for Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Hanna.

Then-GOP presidential nominee John McCain sought to tone down the usual festive atmosphere, creating a bare-bones agenda on the first day of the convention that was almost devoid of traditional politics. Instead of 20 or 30 pep-rally like speeches, the convention turned into a fundraiser for potential victims of the hurricanes.

The hurricanes also messed up plans for private political fundraising events that are typical at national conventions. Most of those turned into charitable fundraisers for hurricane victims or were canceled altogether.

The seriousness of the hurricane threat was driven home by then Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp who made it clear why Crist had to remain to Florida...
