MItt Romney Campaign Attacks Military Cuts Paul Ryan Supported
Source: Huffington Post
Mitt Romney's presidential campaign released an attack Thursday criticizing President Barack Obama for military budget cuts that Romney's running mate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) voted for and helped write. The attack was launched in a press release that coincided with Ryan speaking at a roundtable discussion on defense in Fayetteville, N.C.
"President Obamas devastating defense cuts are set to have a massive impact on Fayetteville and the rest of North Carolina," said Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul in the statement. "Because of the Presidents lack of leadership, North Carolina could be hit hard with thousands of job losses and millions of dollars in lost economic activity. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will restore our militarys strength and ensure our armed forces have the resources they need."
But what the statement leaves out is Ryan's leading role in crafting those cuts as chairman of the House Budget Committee. He also voted for the Budget Control Act that allowed the nation to raise its debt limit. Part of the deal was creating the "sequester" that requires $1.2 trillion in automatic budget cuts, including more than $500 billion from defense over 10 years.
Speaking at the roundtable, Ryan also blamed Obama for the sequester despite his own vote for it. "We opposed it then; we oppose it now," Ryan said.

(1,435 posts)all they have to do is raise revenue not just, not just cuts on safety net. A lot of military spending even the military doesn't want or need.

(17,651 posts)"The Senate has done nothing. The president has proposed no solution," Ryan said.
Romney believes that maintaining a strong defense is a top priority for the government and would work to get a balanced budget passed, Ryan said. Not doing so puts the military at risk, he said.
"The only way we maintain this exceptional nation this American idea is because our veterans have time and again, generation after generation, secured it for us," he said. "It's our duty to preserve this legacy, to support our voluntary (military) force of men and women ... and not let them be pawns in a political game."
Surprised much?

(582 posts)I wonder how many Republicans had their fingers crossed when they voted for the Budget Control Act. The committee that was supposed to create a compromise had three democrats and three republicans. Blame who you want. An agreement is an agreement.

(290 posts)Another promise for their support...Dick Cheney who made a surprise visit to the GOP. I wonder how many promises Romney plans to keep? The big money that donor(s) demand, some are for conflicting interests. In exchange for the big money to his campaign, I'm going to guess that he'll have a lot of people who may not get what they paid for. Promises today (need you now), and flip flop tomorrow (don't need you now).

(582 posts)There are times I believe we are seeing the last hurrah of the Republican party. It has splintered into at least three personalities, and may not survive the hammering it should get this fall. Real Republicans, the Ike types, have been labeled Rhinos and are being purged. Social conservatives continue to hit everybody with a bible, and God help you if the religious decide you are not one of them. Fiscal conservative (Tea Party) wants to undo the entire 20th century, while emulating the tactics and beliefs of fascists. Are they going to survive? Should they?
