RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginia State Police won't release video of a traffic stop involving a Washington Redskins wide receiver who said a state trooper asked if he was a gang member or drug dealer.
Tweets by Paul Richardson Jr., who is black, about the questions he was asked during a Tuesday traffic stop prompted an internal review by state police.
Richardson just signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the Redskins and was driving a new Mercedes when pulled over.
The department said Friday that it was declining a public records request by The Associated Press for video taken from the trooper's in-car camera. Spokeswoman Corinne Geller said the department has the discretion to release the video under state law but has chosen not to.

(160,611 posts)Redskins' WR Paul Richardson says police asked if he was in gang
A.J. Perez, USA TODAY Sports Published 6:26 p.m. ET April 24, 2018
The Virginia State Police are reviewing the allegations made by Washington Redskins wide receiver Paul Richardson in a pair of since-deleted tweets Tuesday, a department spokesperson told USA TODAY Sports.
Richardson, a former Seattle Seahawks receiver who signed with the Redskins as a free agent last month, wrote on Twitter an officer asked if he was in a gang during the car stop in Loudoun County, the same county where the team is headquartered.
Corinne N. Geller, a spokesperson for the Virginia State Police, told USA TODAY Sports in an email that no formal complaint had been filed, but the department is reviewing the matter.
Before asking my name he asked me if I was in a gang, then minutes later told me he thought I was a dealer (drugs), Richardson wrote. What a welcome to the east coast. Finished up with asking me how much car cost me.

(6 posts)In Calif motorists are installing dash cams to record police stops. I would install one if I fit the profile.
This year my friends brother was profiled miles away from the Calif/Mexico border. He is Latino and he is a decorated Marine vet who retired from the core. He cracked his window and told to take a hike. He never left the cab of his truck and ICE had no clue what to do. He refused to answer their questions and eventually he was free to go. What a crock.
