Trump Gives 'Full Support' To Congressional Term Limit Talks

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Kate Riga | April 30, 2018 3:41 pm

President Donald Trump resurrected a campaign talking point Monday afternoon, tweeting about a meeting he had with lawmakers in favor of congressional term limits.

Trump first pitched the idea at a Colorado campaign rally in 2016, calling for a congressional amendment to put a six-year maximum on House members and a 12-year limit on senators.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has previously expressed his opposition to term limits, an idea that has been considered by Republicans for years but never garnered enough congressional support to be executed.

So it is in that pile of stuff people promise they are for, knowing full well they won't be able to do anything about it. Campaign promise....

The only power states like Wyoming or Montana have in Congress is the fact their Representatives and Senators have been there long enough to grow mold. The big (and liberal!) states have a long list of people who'd be willing to take a few years from their multimillion-dollar jobs and serve in Congress; states like Idaho and West Virginia are not that lucky.

Once they lose both the House and Senate, they’ll need a way to try to get it back.

TOO much power is given to these men and women who go to DC and NEVER leave. And they love it.
So it would take an amendment since this has been passed before, under Clinton, and overturned by the SCOTUS. Worth a try

We should be working to make elections more fair, then if people keep getting re-elected it will be because they deserve to be.

Its always the OTHER Senator/Rep who sucks, not "OURS".
No state will EVER pass a term limit law (assuming it would pass SCOTUS) that would handicap them versus other states.

term limits are currently unconstitutional. Haven't we been down this road before? Next thing, he'll be quadrupling down on a line item veto. I guess that's what you get when you elect some uniformed blow hard as pResident. It's like electing the cranky old geezer at the corner bar who doesn't know when to shut the fuck up.

And I've never understood the appeal of entrusting governance of the largest economy on the planet to rank amateurs.
