MSNBC gives 'verbal warning' to host Hugh Hewitt over Pruitt meeting

Source: cnn

MSNBC has admonished weekend host Hugh Hewitt for lobbying EPA head Scott Pruitt to clean up a polluted site near Hewitt's home in California.

In a statement released Wednesday, a spokesperson for MSNBC said that Hewitt "was given a verbal warning as such activity is a violation of our standards."

The revelation of a request for a meeting between Pruitt and Hewitt's law firm came earlier this week after a cache of internal emails was released as a result of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by the environmental group The Sierra Club.

In one of the correspondences from September, first reported by Politico, the MSNBC host asked Pruitt for a meeting with lawyers from Hewitt's firm who represent a water district that sought federal help to clean up a toxic waste site in Orange County, California, where Hewitt lives.

It’s a little different when you are getting paid to do it so there are different rules.

It was completely a self-serving endeavor. In doing so he places no jeopardy upon himself as far as the government is concerned anymore than you would if you lobbied your own representatives. The problem he has is his employer has rules about such things because he is using his position to influence politics which attacks the credibility of the news organization.

know our disgust with this RWNJ, how will they get the word? I probably send them tweets at least once a week, but I don't know if anyone else is contacting them. Same with them having Scaramucci on.

We need to start making our voices heard in places other than DU, IMHO.

I have complained to MSNBC about Hewitt. Why does this right wing piece of shit have air time at this station?

I have been watching more and more of CNN. It's bad enough if I have to tolerate the right wing talking points from invited guests, but to host his own show is a bad idea.

If I want to hear the other opinion, I'll watch FOX (which I do, on occasion, to see what the other side is saying), but to listen to a host spray that bullshit on MSNBC is intolerable.
