Donald Trump told Fox & Friends on Thursday morning that NFL stars should stand proudly for the national anthem before football games. He welcomed the NFLs new rules imposing fines for teams allowing players to kneel on the field, but criticized allowing dissenting stars to remain in the locker room. I dont think people should be staying in locker rooms, but still its good. You have to stand proudly, or you shouldnt be playing, you shouldnt be there, maybe shouldnt be in the country.

UPDATE
Trump Fires Back at Comey: How Will He Explain Lies and Deceit to His Grandchildren?
by Ken Meyer | 7:43 am, May 24th, 2018
President Trump swung back at James Comey on Wednesday after the former FBI director slammed him for his evidence-free accusations about the criminal deep state and his campaign being spied on by the FBI in 2016.
As Trump flings his SpyGate allegations left and right, Comey got on Twitter yesterday to condemn attacks on the FBI while lamenting that the country is led by those who will lie about anything, backed by those who will believe anything. Fox News Brian Kilmeade asked Trump about this, noting Comeys tweet asking, How will Republicans explain this to their grandchildren? Trump fired back in kind, and said that firing Comey was a great service to the country.

(22,037 posts)It makes no sense whatsoever.
There is nothing patriotic about a football game or a baseball game. Except for the Super Bowl and the World Series, TV broadcasts rarely even show the performance of the song.
Why don't they sing it before the State of the Union address? Or before the presidential inauguration?
This is a stupid issue.
And Trump is an idiot.

(11,566 posts)If this is how the NFL wants to play it, the requirement to stop everything and stand during the national anthem should be global throughout the sports industry and all venues, not just enforced for the athletes. Otherwise, this new rule makes them look like partisan hypocrites. Of course, global enforcement would make them look like fascists who don't support the Constitution.

(5,754 posts)Just go up to the front of the line of the nearest concession stand and stand at attention with your hand over your heart while the national anthem is playing. This should be a national movement. Who would complain?

(11,866 posts)Been here before, but because of protesting war... not taking a knee at a football game ...a protest that is still respectful at the same time.
This is an authoritarian, racist reactionby the NFL , to the actions of concerned black men exercising their constitutional right to protest. Red meat for his racist base. PERIOD!

(54,379 posts)It was 11th grade in a public high school in Dallas. Displays of extremist nationalism are looked down upon in Germany for obvious reasons, so when the kids stood up every morning and started some ritual chanting, she was baffled at what was going on and why. I asked if she was adjusting OK and had any questions. She said she found the ritual chanting weird. I had no idea what she meant by that. This was a Texas public school, not a Buddhist monastery. I asked her what they were chanting, and she said most of it was mumbled indistinctly, as if they were very bored by it, but it started out with "I spread the peaches."
I was lost until she said they put their hands on their chests while chanting. Then I got it. I asked, "could they be chanting, "I pledge allegiance?" Her English was good, but since the words "pledge" and "allegiance" usually don't enter the vocabulary of a 16 year old, she didn't know what they meant. So she just heard the English words closest to what she knew. And considering the non-existent enthusiasm of school kids that are forced to recite this EVERY day, they might just as well have been chanting, "I spread the peaches."
Actually, THESE days, the only thing I'd pledge if still lived in the States would be this:
I pledge no credence to the bag
Of lies Fox tells to America
And to the injustice, for which it stands,
One station, shunned by God, indefensible,
With Hannity, disgusting for all.

(1,123 posts)is the video of President Bone Spurs displaying this "patriotism" by absolutely butchering the words (at least the few that he recalled) to the National Anthem. Also, where was all the outrage when Tim Tebow was kneeling to pray? Oh, that's right - he's a "christian", white guy.
