Trump's White House Lawyer Spotted At DOJ Informant Briefings For Lawmakers

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Tierney Sneed | May 24, 2018 2:39 pm

The White House attorney responsible for handling its response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe was spotted heading into two Justice Department briefings Thursday for lawmakers on a reported “informant” the FBI used in its investigation of the Trump campaign.

Emmet Flood was spotted at the Justice Department, where Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and other DOJ officials were scheduled to brief House Speaker Paul Ryan, House Intel Chairman Devin Nunes and House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy. Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the Intel Committee, also attended the noon briefing, after initial reports that only Republican lawmakers were invited. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly also reportedly attended at least part of the briefing.

FBI Director Christopher Wray and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats also joined Rosenstein at the briefings. After the noon meeting, they headed to the Capitol to brief the so-called “Gang of 8”: The House and Senate Intel Committees’ chairs and vice chairs, the House Speaker and Minority Leader, and the Senate Majority and Minority Leaders. (Ryan attended the noon briefing due to a prior commitment.) Gowdy was also slated to attend that meeting.

Flood, too, was spotted heading into the briefing, being held in the basement of the Capitol, as was Kelly.

wtf???

Why were they there at all? Did they think there would be unfettered access? Of course, Kelly being there means it all goes back to Cheeto. Let's just hope Rosenstein is able to redact all info disclosing the identity of any informant.

Trump, who "they" say is not able to be indicted for any crime he commits as "president" still gets to send his legal team into a meeting that never should have been held in the first place to get any evidence they can for his defense. His defense against what? He can't be indicted, or so "they" say.

Just when you think this asshole couldn't do anything that could surprise you, he manages to find yet another level at the bottom of the barrel.

The top Democrats on the House and Senate Intelligence committees on Thursday criticized the presence of President Trump's attorney at a pair of classified meetings between lawmakers and top Justice Department officials.

Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), the ranking member on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said in a tweet that Emmet Flood, a White House lawyer handling the Russia investigation, had "no business showing up to a classified intelligence briefing."

Warner also criticized White House chief of staff John Kelly for making an appearance at the meeting he attended. Both meetings were convened to discuss the FBI's use of a top-secret informant in the early days of a counterintelligence probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

"For the record, the President’s Chief of Staff and his attorney in an ongoing criminal investigation into the President’s campaign have no business showing up to a classified intelligence briefing," Warner tweeted.
