Trump suggests U.S. farmers face big trade barriers in Mexico. They have actually fallen.

MEXICO CITY — This week, days after announcing tariffs on aluminum and steel that affected Mexico and Canada, President Trump went after the two countries again on trade. This time, he claimed that the U.S. agriculture industry has suffered thanks to “big trade barriers against U.S. farmers.”

But an examination of U.S.-Mexico agricultural ties reveals a very different picture.

Since NAFTA took effect in 1994, U.S. agricultural exports to Mexico have quintupled. In the last 10 years alone, they increased from $12.7 billion to $18.6 billion, according to the United States Department of Agriculture.

The USDA’s website offers a blunt contradiction of Trump’s claim: “Under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexico and the United States have eliminated all tariffs and quantitative restrictions on agricultural goods.”

and the one thing I have been saying is - funny, you want their money, but not their people.

They all have been singing praises of Mexico. How trade with Mexico has been great for their farms. They want to make money off Mexico but sure as heck don't want their people. But Drump as usual is an imbecile that knows nothing and his administration does not have the best people to tell him better.

the full effect of Trump's immigration policies yet. Late summer and fall this year is going to be panic time for U.S. farmers. Like you said, "Fewer people to do the hard work so their crop rots in the field." And that's exactly what will happen. Prices for fresh fruits and vegetables will skyrocket, taking the CPI along with them.

Of course Trump has no idea what our government does, so that makes things like this more difficult for him. He says he wants to "re-negotiate" NAFTA, because as everyone knows, Trump is the greatest negotiator on the planet! Just ask him!

He'd end up having American farmers cede their land to Mexico.

Of his claims he'll help this country by using tariffs, and what I fear is he's intentionally doing this to hurt the American people with this for others for revenge , and to hurt our economy , which it is. His actions will hurt everyone, especially farmers who were told he'd make it much better for them, or like he pulled on our health care claiming he'd cover more people (a lie), and have better coverage (a lie) , and cost less (another big lie), then did the opposite causing premiums to skyrocket even more now, and they're saying it'll rise 90% within 2-3 years, and everything he said and claimed he'd do was BS and campaign propaganda for their vote. Maybe those getting hurt from him will realize they've been conned, and taken advantage of now. Then help vote these crooks committing corrupt acts daily out of office asap, while they can.
