Over 118,000 voters accidentally left off rolls in Los Angeles County
Source: Politico
A printing error affecting more than one-third of the precincts in Los Angeles County left 118,522 registered voters off the rolls during the California primary on Tuesday, the county election authority said in a statement.
County Clerk Dean C. Logan said that voters left off the rolls can still cast provisional ballots. But the process of verifying and counting a large number of provisional ballots could delay the vote tally in local races, depending on exactly where the affected precincts are. Two battleground House seats, California's 25th and 39th Districts, take in parts of Los Angeles County.
...snip...
The 39th District race has been particularly closely watched, with Democratic groups spending millions of dollars to ensure that two Republicans do not advance to the general election and wipe the district off the battleground map.

(108,980 posts)either in the elections office or the printer, and purposely caused the "error."
And recent experience has taught us that the hacker could be Russian, Chinese, North Korean, or anyone who just wanted to cause trouble.
Democratic leadership would be the last on anyone's list.

(108,980 posts)my personal opinion is that it's more likely this "error" was due to a hacker than caused by Democratic election officials.

I would bet the provisionals do get counted.
I trust California to get this right, eventually. I mailed my ballot last week.
I don't like this "Jungle" style primary.

(46,192 posts)You can register to vote and vote on election day in California and your vote will be counted whether it is on a regular ballot or provisional.
If you were inadvertently left off the roster log at the polling place, but you're registered with the county, then your provisional ballot will be counted.
There are lots of ways to protect your right to vote in California, and even a f-up like this will not prevent people from voting, and thanks to lots of polling places, , the minimum number mandated by state law, lines for voting are typically fairly short as well as tons of early and mail in voting, there are lots of ways to vote in California and lots of ways to fix any issue even on election day so that you can vote.

(5,103 posts)Not every state counts the provisional votes. We have seen this in the past 20 years.
They just say they did.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)They verify all votes and count every ballot cast, provisional or not, by a legally registered voter.
And this is required by state law.

(10,667 posts)Whether it is/was an accident would have to be asserted by someone or it is purely conjecture. Journalists need to stick to the facts and to quotes.
Headline _should_ read "118,000 voters left off rolls in Los Angeles County".
In the article the reporter can write "so and so asserts it was an accident that 118,000 voters were left off the rolls in Los Angeles County."
