McCabe seeks immunity for testimony in congressional hearing over FBI handling of Clinton email prob

(CNN)Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has requested the Senate Judiciary Committee provide him with immunity from prosecution in exchange for testifying at an upcoming congressional hearing focused on how senior officials at the FBI and Justice Department handled the investigation of Hillary Clinton's private email server, according to a letter obtained by CNN.
"Under the terms of such a grant of use immunity, no testimony or other information provided by Mr. McCabe could be used against him in a criminal case," wrote Michael Bromwich, a lawyer for McCabe, to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, who has requested McCabe testify next week.
Grassley, an Iowa Republican, has quietly requested that several former officials appear in front of the Judiciary Committee to discuss the long-awaited internal Justice Department report, which sources say will detail a series of missteps surrounding the Justice Department and FBI's investigation into Clinton's handling of classified information while secretary of state.
The inspector general's report has not yet been released, but Grassley has invited former FBI Director James Comey and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch to testify as well, according to those familiar with the plans.

The Trumpies are going crazy over this; there is no indication that it has anything to do with the Mueller investigation. McCabe is in trouble for allegedly lying to the inspector general concerning leaks to the press about the Clinton e-mail investigation. This may be just a fight between McCabe and Comey.

Isn't it amazing that the Trumpanistas will hold on to this small bit of.......hope? for them, but completely ignore every bit of information about the Trump campaign's collusion with Russia? They have the ability to ignore the 17 indictments, the 3 guilty pleas, and the dozens of campaign officials cooperating with the Mueller investigation, but they can hold out hope forever that there will be something, anything from the years of GOP investigations into Hillary that they can point to. It hasn't happened in 10 years of the GOP investigating Clinton's Sec.State tenure, but they keep hoping. Idiots!
I'm sure they'd call it "compartmentalizing", but anyone else would call it "total ignorance of the facts". They're overlooking an entire movie just to concentrate on one frame of the film. No one ever accused the GOP of being smart.

(843 posts)McCabe is charged with allegedly leaking internal FBI information to the press. The information in these alleged leaks basically showed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was conducting an INVESTIGATION and was not showing political bias. This does not rise to the level of getting Congressional immunity, and will be rejected out of hand. Watch for this to drag out for a while as the Republicans attempt to float accusations of a cover-up.
Should the committee grant immunity (not likely in this case) it would have to go to the Justice Department for approval. The Justice Department could take months to approve this, and it will drag out for a while.
