Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein Wins the California Senate Primary

Source: Time

(LOS ANGELES) — U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein cruised to first place in California’s primary on Tuesday in her bid for a fifth full term in Washington.

In a video statement delivered from Washington, Feinstein pledged to “protect California” in “difficult and contentious times.”

Feinstein’s opponent hasn’t yet been determined, but fellow Democrat Kevin de Leon, a state senator, is hoping to secure the second spot. Little-known Republican James Bradley is also in the running for second place.

California sends the two highest vote-getters to the November general election regardless of party. Feinstein heads to November with more than $7 million in the bank.

I'm surprised no one has posted this yet. As it turns out, de Leon finished second, so Democrats are guaranteed to hold onto the California Senate seat. According to the NY Times election map, Feinstein won every county in the state. Not bad for an "old woman", eh? Good for her!!

Here are the final numbers:

Dianne Feinstein* Democrat 1,694,819 43.8%
Kevin de León Democrat 435,639 11.3%
James Bradley Republican 340,714 8.8%
Others 1,399,889 36.2%
