White House considers more economic penalties against Canada: report

Source: The Hill

BY JUSTIN WISE - 06/06/18 12:44 PM EDT

The White House is discussing additional economic penalties against Canada in response to the country's threat to impose retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products, according to the Washington Post.

The Post offered no details on what kind of penalties the administration is considering against Canada, which plans to levy tariffs on about $13 billion of U.S. products in response to U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.

Among the products that would be hit by the Canadian tariffs are orange juice, soy sauce, sleeping bags and inflatable boats, according to the Post.

Canada is hosting this weekend's G-7 summit, where Trump's trade policies are expected to take center stage.

captured perfectly by Joe Jackson in his song "Jet Set" (see below) - but now he is upsetting world economies because of perceived slights, grudges, and feeding a fox news stoked grievance culture/base.

Canadian Governmental and Business holdings and Personal Canadian Citizen's hold here in the States. Here in the Southwest,we depend on the Canadian Snow-Birds and their very liberal spending habits into our local economy. As well as their Real Estate holdings.

Those whom own the R/V Resorts, are going to feel this first hand.

I immigrated back when Obama was in office. When Trump won* the election, most of my friends here were as incredulous as most of us were. They mainly wanted to know how such a thing could happen, so I had to explain the electoral college. They understand that Trump's supporters are just a very loud minority, and that most of us can't stand him.

However... given the economic pain these tariffs are likely to cause, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some bitterness long after Trump is gone. He's doing a fantastic job when it comes to wrecking our reputation and alliances around the world. Whoever comes after him is gonna have one hell of a mess to clean up.
