Source: NPR
Police say a soldier stole an armored vehicle from a military installation outside Richmond, Va., Tuesday night, leading them on a two-hour chase that ended downtown with his arrest.
Police say the suspect, identified as Joshua Philip Yabut, 29, of Richmond, Va., took the vehicle from Fort Pickett in Blackstone, Va., just before 8 p.m. ET.
His unit was conducting routine training there at the time, according to Cotton Puryear a National Guard spokesman.
Yabut then headed north on Interstate 95 before entering Richmond, according to police. Around 9:40 p.m. Yabut stopped and surrendered to Virginia State Police about a block from the state capitol building.

His best possible defense: "I wanted to practice for President Trump's parade." That ought get him a pardon.

(66,393 posts)I crewed one for about a year when I was in the Army and part of my unit's Operations Section. We were responsible for the operation and maintenance of the battalion's mobile command center. There is no dedicated weapon for the vehicle (not even a mounting for a machine gun) and the only defense is the staff's issue rifles.
I hope no one got hurt by getting hit with it, but really, that's the only way this aluminum box can hurt someone.
I was trained as a tanker, so when my first active duty assignment turned out to be crewing one of these things, the shame was almost painful...
