Trump seeks to reorganize the federal government
Source: Politico
The Trump administration is preparing to release a sweeping plan for reorganizing the federal government that includes a major consolidation of welfare programs and a renaming of the Health and Human Services Department.
The report, set to be released in the coming weeks by the White House OMB, seeks to move safety-net programs, including food stamps, into HHS, two sources with knowledge of the plan told POLITICO. The plan would also propose changing the name of the sprawling department, while separately seeking cuts at USAID and the State Department.
The $70 billion food stamp program, formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is run by USDA and makes up the vast majority of the departments budget. The program helps more than 40 million low-income Americans buy groceries each month.
You have low-income assistance in a bunch of different shops without one point of oversight and without a whole lot of communication, said one of the people with knowledge of the plan. Why not have one federal agency responsible for execution?

(23,295 posts)one agency then defund it. See? Simple.
Heartless, inhumane bastards, all of them. The GOP can no longer deny this is who they are. Separate children from their parents, deny sick people health care, starve the least among us, & yet they have convinced almost half of America that they are the party of Christ.

(19,204 posts)If he does, I can't see it ever happening. There are more than enough Trumptards on social programs where Congressional Republicans would see right through Trump's "brilliant" plan.

(155 posts)I keep pinching myself to see if Ive been transported to a dimension of madness unleashed upon my material certainty. Cant recall that there was any president of the USA that ever wrecked such havoc upon so many government bodies.
His restructuring and the eventuality of defunding and thus failure of so many needed programs would have been unfathomable under P. Obama and warranted condemnations from all sensible people.
In his warped mind he believes this is creative, genius and novel when it is simply outward manifestations of schizophrenia.

(6,831 posts)for a decade. New administrations come and go and presidents shift agencies and shuffle sub-departments often, for the sake of streamlining and efficiency. But I don't like the sound of this one bit. And I definitely do not trust trmp or his minions at all.

(14,492 posts)Why do we promote headlines saying Trump does this and Trump does that when he couldn't reorganize his own golf bag?
We, and our public media should be discussing the actual origins of this butchery...for example (from the article):
(snip)
Heritage recommended that all nutrition functions at USDA including food stamps, nutrition education and school meal programs that serve some 30 million children each day be transferred to HHS.
By only pointing to Trump, then when he's gone, it will imply the policies are gone. The fact is, right-wing think tanks that are the origins of much of this crap are rarely discussed in the media, and we never hear of the people that head-up these organizations - that have huge impact on our lives and in reality are our worst enemies.
