Kaepernick lawyers to subpoena Trump, Pence as part of NFL collusion case

Source: The Hill

NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick’s legal team will reportedly seek federal subpoenas for President Trump and Vice President Pence to testify in his grievance alleging NFL owners colluded to keep him out of the league.

Yahoo Sports reported Thursday that the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s lawyers will look to compel testimony from Trump, Pence and others who are familiar with the president's stance against players who protest during the national anthem.

Sources told the site that the subpoenas would likely focus on the Trump administration’s involvement with the NFL since Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017.

Yahoo Sports noted reports that Trump had spoken directly with some NFL owners about the protests, with sources telling the outlet that those conversations, and any pressure exerted on the NFL from Trump officials, would shape the subpoenas.

Kaepernick filed a grievance against NFL owners last year, alleging that they colluded to keep him out of the league. The complaint invoked Trump’s attacks on protesting NFL players. The president had called for NFL owners to fire those players during a rally last year. Kaepernick was the first NFL player to start kneeling during the anthem to protest racial injustice.

I frankly don't give a damn about professional football anymore, mostly because I don't want to watch brain damage and the evental TBI / CTE in real time.

But, if it is going to exist and continue to be a National obsession, at least let Kaepernick prevail on this.

You're just not gonna get anything out of trump or the owners.
And he cant say he was prevented from playing because he could be playing CFL ball right now & HE opted out of his own existing contract.

NOT a judge or atty, but it just looks like one of those frivolous cases for publicity. Which will be successful.

11. There's nothing frivolous about being blackballed by your industry

And the CFL existance should be irrelevant, as he shouldn't be required to leave the country to be employed in his profession. It's not even the exact same sport. Different rules and field. The NFL is an American monopoly.

13. He had a contract and decided to exit it. He could have stayed,

but he knew he was no longer going to be the starter. So it was HIS choice to stop playing. Good chance the 49ers would've likely cut him, so it wasnt exactly a dumb move. He got a ton of money for the years he did play.
He's just not going to be able to prove that the owners all got together and said "dont sign him". As a matter of fact, Seattle did speak with him about a job. They asked that he not protest during the anthem. Which is their right to do as a BUSINESS. He declined to make that promise, so they declined signing him.
Everyone seems to forget that each team is a business. None of us would be allowed to protest at our jobs, these guys are just more visible and wealthier. None of his freedoms are being violated. He could easily protest or anything else outside the game. And he HAS done many positive things outside the game. But he doesnt have the "right" to play it, only the ability of a team sees fit.
We'll see where it goes, and I could certainly be wrong. The burden is on his legal team

16. The contract doesn't matter, neither does his past salary

He left one team, it doesn't excuse the entire league from blackballing him. Kneeling during the anthem was not against the rules, and he was not formally punished for it. An NFL team is not a normal buisiness either, and I'm not forced to take part in acts of patriotism and national loyalty.

As for what can be proven about "collusion", you just don't know enough to say whether or not he has a chance to win his case. Your opinion on that matter doesn't support the suit being "frivolous".

They'll have tp prove the owners got together. Maybe they did. I doubt they're THAT stupid, but you never know. Maybe someone will sign him for '18, but I doubt that too.

When he sues, the pre trial discovery part will expose way more things than just the collusion. I have no doubt it will expose racist language, and jeopardize the NFL's exemption from taxes. Please Mr. K, sue the crap out of them and get Trump into discovery. You could well be another person who can bring down this tin pot despot we have as President right now.

And Kaepernick has additional incentive to be pissed since millions heard him called a son of a bitch by the (so-called) President and told he should leave the country.
There's no doubt BLOTUS is a hateful, stone-cold, fucking racist and he needs to be exposed and sued into oblivion.

would fold under the pressure of questioning. Will his "Mother" be allowed to hold his hand during questioning?? Everyone has allowed tRump to make this about "dishonoring the flag, the military and this country" How STUPID is he? We all know it is about racial injustice.Colin's life has been devastated by these people, and he deserves his day in court. Any owners worth their salt will back him and his team mates up. TELL the TRUTH about Orange Ass.

I hope he goes after Fox News too for all the lies and slander they've told about him!

The fact that these assholes are still in office is a far greater insult to this country and to our troops than any amount of anthem protesting.
