The Latest: Autopsy: Man shot by police had wound in back

Source: Associated Press

Updated 3:05 pm, Thursday, June 7, 2018

CHICAGO (AP) — The Latest on the fatal shooting of a man by a Chicago police officer (all times local):

3:00 p.m.

An autopsy has determined that a man fatally shot on Chicago's South Side by police was shot in the back.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office on Wednesday said that 24-year-old Maurice Granton, Jr. died of a gunshot wound to the back.

The shooting happened Wednesday night. Police say officers watching the area via a surveillance camera spotted Granton taking part in an apparent drug transaction. They say he appeared to be armed and when they approached him, he ran away and when officers told him to stop he "produced a weapon." After the officer shot him, police say they recovered a gun near where he was shot. They say that there is evidence that the gun was fired at the scene.

6. All they have to do is test for gun powder residue on the victim's hand to determine whether

7. The story didn't say he fired a gun, just that they found one...

but if he had a gun, why was he shot in the back while running?

Something's fishy with the cops' story.

"They say that there is evidence that the gun was fired at the scene." They are saying the gun is his and he fired it.

The cops out in Sacramento said that guy had a gun too.

I still say something is fishy with the cops' story, as it often is.

I'm saying if the cops accuse him of firing that gun, he can easily be proven innocent with a GSR test. You sound like you think I'm on the cops' side.

8. Yes, in fact, as part of their daily job activities, lying is a requirement.

They lie as part of their investigative phase in any interaction with another human being. They also presume that everyone else lies, too.
