London: Australian government officials have paid a mysterious visit to Julian Assange in his Ecuadorian embassy refuge in London, in a sign there may be a breakthrough in the stalemate that has lasted almost six years.

Two officials from Australia's High Commission were spotted leaving the embassy in Knightsbridge in west London on Thursday.

and they were there to register a complaint...

The hypotheses on what this is about are widely divergent. Supposedly he has wanted consular assistance from the beginning, and they haven't wanted to provide it before now. The most optimistic idea is that it is part of working a deal to get him to flip on Trumpland and his Russian contacts. The other end of the spectrum is that Trump is about to pardon him from US crimes, and thereafter the hypotheses again widely diverge on the AUS government's issues/complaints/charges against him.

We won't know until we do, I guess...
