Italy's new PM backs Trump on re-admitting Russia into the G7
Source: Reuters
LA MALBAIE, Quebec (Reuters) - New Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte threw his weight on Friday behind U.S. President Donald Trumps call for Russia to be included once more into Group of Seven meetings.
I agree with President (Trump). Russia should be re-admitted into the G8. It is in the interests of everyone, Conte said in a tweet from Canada where he is due to make his international debut as Italian leader at a summit of world power leaders.
The Italian government, backed by the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement and far-right League, has already signalled it is likely to adopt a pro-Russian line in its foreign policy and has called for an end to economic sanctions on Moscow.

(8,200 posts)When I saw Trump's speeches during the campaign I remarked that he reminded me of the obnoxious, boisterous, racist fat slob that that brought about so much well deserved misery for the Italian know nothings. The situation is some what analogous to our present situation. Scapegoating and ridiculous promises to complex situations. Trump is following the same deception to gullible masses that both Hitler and Mussolini feed their sheep. Trump is just as much a crackpot as those charlatans leading the undiscerning to slaughter.

(58,724 posts)Austria offered to host a meeting between the two leaders, a White House official said on Thursday. While Trump and Putin have previously discussed the possibility of a summit, the U.S. has nothing further to say on the idea, added the official, who was granted anonymity to discuss the matter.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed in April that Putin and Trump had talked about meeting in a number of potential locations, including the White House. Russia and the U.S. are in talks about a summit but there are no agreements yet, RIA Novosti reported Friday, citing an unidentified Russian diplomat. An Austrian government spokesman declined to comment.
