Carson backs off plan to triple rents for poorest households

Source: Politico

HUD in April released a rental assistance overhaul plan that would have hiked the rate paid by some recipients from $50 to $150.

HUD Secretary Ben Carson is backing off plans to triple the minimum rent paid by some of the country's poorest households, citing Congress' move to defy the administration and boost his agency's budget.

The proposal to increase the minimum rent paid by rental assistance beneficiaries is no longer “urgent,” due to the additional resources in the HUD budget, Carson said Friday morning.

HUD in April released a rental assistance overhaul plan that would have hiked the rate paid by some recipients from $50 to $150.

“The reason we had to consider raising rents at all … [was] in order to not displace people who are already being taken care of,” Carson said in remarks at the Bipartisan Policy Center. “Now that the budget has been changed, the necessity for doing that is not urgent.”

Carson was asked about it and he said it's to help people. WTF?????? I am terrified at what the repubs are doing to our once great country.

In NYC, subsidized housing buildings sit in prime real estate areas. If you've ever been to Chelsea in Manhattan, it's a site to behold. You have luxury condos sitting right next to housing projects. They want those folks and those buildings gone.

This is the start of it.

plot maps and the like in order to falsely justify the construction of these new expensive condos while demolishing the subsidized housing units (or stretching the boundary lines so out of whack to show that they can do away w/ the subsidized housing units). I'm not sure how 100% this is done, I expect that each geographical area should have x number of subsidized units vs. y number of at market units. All just plain old greed showing it's ugly head.
