Report: Trump Pitches 'No Tariffs' at G7 Meeting

Source: The Daily Beast

President Trump reportedly suggested ending all tariffs between the U.S. and other G7 nations after a tense meeting on trade at the summit in Quebec, a stark turnaround from his recent tough talk on trade imbalances. “We should at least consider no tariffs, no barriers—scrapping all of it,” Trump said at a private gathering with European leaders, according to sources cited by Politico. Officials familiar with the discussion said Trump’s remarks were largely seen as rhetorical by other world leaders present, but German Chancellor Angela Merkel is said to have offered to take the suggestion as a “starting point.” The apparent about-face comes after Merkel and other leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron, reportedly confronted Trump over his threats to impose steep tariffs, pushing back against his repeated claims that the U.S. is a victim of unfair trade practices by its European allies. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker reportedly offered to visit Washington to continue trade talks with Trump, though the U.S. president is said to have not responded to that proposal.

Perhaps he can pat himself on the back a few times for coming up with it.

Sad sad man. Maybe we should lock him in a room full of seriously ill people so we can get decent healthcare, or DACA recipients so he'll reform immigration?

or is he changing his tune because the entire world is against him and his stupid ideas?

He's governing like a slum lord from New York and men and women of letters and genuine political accomplishment have already grown tired of his tactless antics.

Dementia is overtaking him, call for an evaluation. Today.

He is a slum lord from New York! He is governing as he has run his businesses, so expect the country to go bankrupt. He has all but destroyed the United States on the world stage. He is a disgusting waste of DNA.

Meanwhile, back on earth, the world is spinning out of control and mankind with it.

Can only hope those in the EU and other world leaders realize that this guy is a big bag of bullshit. No one can or should trust him. He blows in the wind of his own voice. He believes "foreigners" are less than him and his crooked friends. VOTE and help others register and VOTE or we keep what we have and they will make it all worse.

If he truly believes that having no tariffs is the way to go, he should follow that with action which achieves that goal. Otherwise it's just another of Trump's wild ideas that he pulls out of his ass with no thought or warning to his staff.

17. Pair this with his "suggestion" that Russia be re-admitted to the G8

Those tariffs to Canada & the EU never did make sense. I know what he said, that trade has been "unfair" to the U.S. But even he must know, even though he doesn't understand trade or tariffs, that the idea is crazy and actually harmful to the America economy. So what's going on? A "deal" (how he loves deals & fantasizes that he's the best at them!) to withdraw tariffs in exchange for readmitting Russia?

Of course, this won't (and didn't) happen at this G7 meeting, nor could even Trump expect it to. But it may be out there, dangling. I know this sounds crazy, and it's only my thoughts, but we've seen crazier things.
