Trump at G-7 floats end to all tariffs, threatens major penalties for countries that don't agree

Source: The Washington Post

Quebec City, Quebec — President Trump told foreign leaders at the Group of Seven summit that they must dramatically reduce trade barriers with the United States or they could lose access to the world’s largest economy, delivering his most defiant trade threat yet to his counterparts from around the globe.

Trump described private conversations he held over two days with the leaders of Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada. He said he pushed them to consider removing every single tariff or trade barrier on American goods, and in return he would do the same. But if steps aren’t taken, he said, the penalties would be severe.

“We’re the piggy bank that everybody is robbing,” Trump said at a news conference Saturday. “And that ends.”

with his bullying tactics all his life. Everyone around him has enabled him all his life and he knows no other way to act.

It won't work, Orange Bully Boy!

Unfortunately, it is our country that will suffer.

at Angela's house. After a few or a lot of steins of Weihenstephan Hefe Weissbier...

"What are we gonna do about that guy?"

"He won't be around forever. He was looking a bit hypertensive, I thought."

"But his doctor said he was in excellent health and could live to be 200!"

"Yes, and he weighs only 239 pounds!"

(Laughter)

"But he can do a lot of damage in a short time even if the Americans pull themselves together and remove him."

"Let's kick him out, like we did with Russia. Invite in another country so we can still be called the G7. Maybe Norway, they've got a lot of money."

"That would really put him in a spot of bother, wouldn't it? Take out the U.S.A. in exchange for a country with 5 million people."

(Laughter)

"I have an idea. Let's just embargo them."

"Isn't that kind of drastic?"

"Yes. But even a few days of it would make the point..."

About the same size GDP-wise, except China is ascending and we are declining.

Doing so would also drive a stake right into the heart of the Sino-Russian alliance...aka SCO.

Geopolitically it would be a brilliant move.

Or on a lesser scale they may make it G8 by adding China.

rapidly approaching freefall. Other nations are not going to put up with this thug's bullying much longer. Instead of using diplomacy and tact to come to an agreement, they would be seen as weakly kowtowing to this ass. Rather, as some have said, they will take their business elsewhere and we as a nation will suffer the consequences.

that there are people like them in these other countries that these pols have to deal with.

Like this Mexico is going to pay for the wall shit.

Any Mexican president who agreed to that would be dead politically.

This is same with this trade shit - none of these people can bow down to this shit and survive back home.

that's no winning strategy, you orange prick. Canada is under NAFTA as is Mexico, so trade barriers are small to non-existent. Average tariffs on US imports to the EU average roughly 3%. A far cry from the 25 and 10% steel and aluminum tariffs suggested by the orange prick. The rest is due to misalignment of environmental safeguards and consumer protections. On the whole, theirs are more substantial than ours. Their response to Dumpster's bullying? Probably a hardy ...fuck you!
