Evangelical group plans nearly $20 million push ahead of midterms

Source: The Hill

An influential conservative evangelical group is ramping up its spending on efforts to defend Republican majorities in the November midterms.

The Faith and Freedom Coalition, which invested heavily during the 2016 elections, plans to spend nearly $20 million on a voter turnout effort to protect GOP majorities in the fall.

“We are going to make a bigger effort in 2018 than we did in 2016," said Ralph Reed, the chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition.

“We think our people are going to come, but we also think their people are going to come and they are going to come in really big numbers. This is going to be hard fought.”

Reed estimated that the group will make 180 million voter contacts through digital outreach, knocking on people's doors and making phone calls, sending texts, emails and physical mail.

What we really need to do is get money out of politics. Publicly funded elections are the only answer. The amount of money spent on campaigns is obscene. We are using our electoral process as a profit center, so no wonder these seats attract some of the lowest slime in our society.

Not all churches use money for charitable reasons...evangies like Reed, believe that all they need is "faith" and completely eschew doing any good works in the name of Christ!!!

Tax the churches...those that give to charities can take what they donate as a deduction!!!

But, we also need to get the SCOTUS to reverse their decision on Citizens United!!!

Any money given or raised for the purpose of operating the church should be taxed. If they operate a charity that benefits those in need then it needs to be kept separate from the church to be tax exempt. The funding for the tax exempt organization needs to come directly from the giver and not thru the church.

Did DU recruit you as the comment police? (1) Everyone must convince you and (2) no comments where people express support for or against an issue UNLESS they remember rule (1) where they convince you. OK.

Dude (or lady), you're working too hard fighting someone who just expressed support for a policy.

Funny thing is, I still support taxing churches. You haven't changed my mind. Lol

There are pros and cons to taxing churches, but taxing them is not going to solve the problem of them spending their money to influence elections.

Matthew 22:21 - Jesus said "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's."

Even Jesus paid the tax....

Matthew 17...

24 After they had arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax came to Peter and asked, “Does your Teacher pay the two drachmas?”

25 “Yes,” he answered. When Peter entered the house, Jesus preempted him. “What do you think, Simon?” He asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs and taxes: from their own sons, or from others?”

26 “From others,” Peter answered. “Then the sons are exempt,” Jesus declared.

27 “But so that we may not offend them, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take the first fish you catch. When you open its mouth, you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for you and Me.”

Better now?

TPTB were very effective in convincing people that they didn't want their taxes spent on elections. It has cost us so much more. Stupid, stupid Americans. We are now caught up in a perpetual election cycle. I'm not sure our Representatives do anything but campaign, since their terms are so short. No matter your seat, national or state level, as soon as you get in office, one of your major objectives is to find money to campaign for the next election. Basically, the people pay our reps to spend a good share of their time marketing themselves for their next term, & accepting bribes, in exchange for the money to do so.

Judas got 30 pieces of silver, but just once, for selling Christ.

Pat Robertson, Jim Bakker and their ilk get millions of dollars repeatedly for selling Christ.
