Trump-Kim summit: Trump says U.S. will end its 'war games' with South Korea

Source: Washington Post

SINGAPORE — President Trump said he had “developed a very special bond” with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during their historic summit here Tuesday, and proclaimed the start of a new era that could break a cycle of nuclear brinkmanship and stave off a military confrontation.

“Yesterday’s conflict does not have to be tomorrow’s war,” Trump said at a news conference in Singapore following more than four hours of talks with Kim. Trump said Kim “reaffirmed” his commitment to denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and also agreed to destroy a missile site in the country. “We’re ready to write a new chapter between our nations,” he said.

<...>

Trump announced that he will order an end to regular “war games” the United States conducts with ally South Korea, a reference to annual joint military exercises that are an irritant to North Korea. Trump called the exercises “very provocative” and “inappropriate” in light of the optimistic opening he sees with North Korea. Ending the exercises would also save money, Trump said.

The United States has conducted such exercises for decades as a symbol of unity with Seoul, and previously rejected North Korean complaints as illegitimate. Ending the games would be a significant political benefit for Kim, but Trump insisted he had not given up leverage.

I've been sitting here watching this news conference, and Trump sounds like an
addle brained 5 year old!

Not much that is coming out of his mouth makes any sense, or has anything to do with reality!

He'd say the sky is red if he thought it sounded good, and made him seem important!

I can barely stand to watch/listen to this 2 tons of horse shite, it's so incredibly ignorant,
and non-sensical!

Can't wait to see what S. Korea and Japan have to say to this utter shite!

for their perspective "bases".

Given that Bolton is over there, this is the antithesis of the PNAC strategy that he helped to write and promote. It will be interesting to see what the neocons think about "ending war games" over in the east.

I.e., will there be a clash between the isolationist Libertarians and the neocon warmongers, otherwise the end of Pax Americana?

The only thing that will help it make sense is if you FOLLOW THE MONEY. BOTH men want $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Kim Jong-un went to school and traveled outside of NK while his father was in charge so he is very much aware of "wealth". Drumpf wants to compete with Sheldon Adelson and build all over the east.

However both are going to have to deal with their neocon "generals".

Heard on Joe Madison's show earlier that South Korea is trying to determine the "exact meaning and intent" of the comments, i.e., they were blindsided -

South Korea’s Defense Ministry is sidestepping an immediate reaction to President Donald Trump’s claim that Washington and Seoul should stop their regular military drills.

The ministry says it would first need to figure out the “exact meaning and intent” of such comments, echoing a stance taken by the presidential office.

The ministry had said in recent weeks that there were no immediate plans between Washington and Seoul to modify the annual drills despite Pyongyang’s anger toward them.

Let's put it this way - they are across a channel from the Koreas, China, and Russia. They have had the U.S. (per their WW2 surrender) essentially providing the security for them (and in the area including the Philippines) for over 70 years. They have wanted the U.S. out of the area for nationalistic purposes, but I expect not in this manner. They may well need to consider ratcheting up their own war machinery (albeit quietly) as it is becoming obvious that the old WW2 alliances are being dismantled by a crazy man.

The former funded (and money laundered) to maintain the war machinery and the latter is funding (money laundering) to maintain a real estate machinery.

I'd be trying to find ways to screw Trump and the KGOP in coming elections.

Since Russia proved you could hack our system so easily, and without consequences, if I were in government in Japan or South Korea (or Germany or France) I'd want to fight fire with fire.

I'd also be looking for ways to retaliate against Trump family businesses. Hack their computers, leak their finances.

In other words: "Japan/South Korea/Germany/France/Canada, if you're listening, maybe you can find those Trump tax returns we'd all like to see."

and Iran essentially helped Raygun beat Carter in the 1980 election, so a favor for a favor. I remember watching one of the networks when this happened -

But the irony today is what Bolton said 16 years ago in front of the Heritage Foundation as part of his extension of Shrub's "Axis of Evil" -

Beyond the Axis of Evil: Additional Threats from Weapons of Mass Destruction

May 6, 2002

<...>

Next is North Korea. North Korea has a dedicated, national-level effort to achieve a BW capability and has developed and produced, and may have weaponized, BW agents in violation of the Convention. Despite the fact that its citizens are starving, the leadership in Pyongyang has spent large sums of money to acquire the resources, including a biotechnology infrastructure, capable of producing infectious agents, toxins, and other crude biological weapons. It likely has the capability to produce sufficient quantities of biological agents for military purposes within weeks of deciding to do so, and has a variety of means at its disposal for delivering these deadly weapons.

In January, I also named North Korea and Iraq for their covert nuclear weapons programs in violation of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. This year, North Korea did not meet congressional certification requirements because of its continued lack of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, its failure to make any progress toward implementing the North-South Joint Denuclearization Declaration as called for under the Agreed Framework, and for proliferating long-range ballistic missiles. Finally, we believe that North Korea has a sizeable stockpile of chemical weapons and can manufacture all manner of CW agents.
