Texas health inspectors find dozens of violations at shelters for immigrant children: report

Texas health inspectors found nearly 150 violations at more than a dozen shelters across the state that are housing immigrant children, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.
Violations from the last year at Southwest Key Program shelters include inadequate supervision, lack of timely medical care, according to the news service. Children were also given medications they were allergic to, it added.
A spokesperson for Southwest Key, which operates 16 shelters housing 2,600 children, told the AP that the violations equate to less than 1 percent of the standards that inspectors reviewed.
. . .
Senate Democrats introduced legislation last Friday that would prevent the separation of immigration children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Sure, some kids got meds they were allergic to but remember-we had adequate soap in the lavatories and no trash in the common areas! There's probably another 97 things we got right...

We need a dozen Congresspeople going to these detention centers. We need human rights people outside these centers. Where the fuck are they?
My presence wont make a diddly bit of difference.

Speaking of, we have another PRIMARY TUESDAY TOMORROW! Hope Republicans are as miserable as last week and the talking heads on cable having just as hard a time pretending our victories aren't happening.

(53,410 posts)But my question is why are some representatives going to these places and unbelievably not using the cameras to show anything but themselves? Take some pictures of what is happening to the children for fucks sake!
Dont they know that an iconic photo speaks volumes more than their hedging words?

I've become convinced by their own actions that there is widespread subversion of democracy occurring from within our most prominent media, including the NYT and AP for examples and CNN and MSNBC. Local is Fox affiliate all over the 2 areas we live in, no need for Sinclair Broadcasting to extend into those areas.
They are all working to protect Republicans and keep Democrats from taking power.

Maybe demanding "they" do "something" instead of knowing what they are dong is not a good use of our time and a grave injustice to those who are doing. Only those who know what Elizabeth Warren did today can amplify her message.

(58,785 posts)not doing anything to talk about we. Did you see that site I posted from a group that's fighting for people being held in detention? There's always more being done than those of us who aren't involved know.
But we can know about those who are doing and spread the news about what they're doing.
Turns out Congresswoman Pramily Jayapal is our first female Indian American congresswomen and apparently something of a rising star. She's expected to win reelection handily (Seattle).

And the question really is why aren't the GOP types who claim to be so pro-life out there fighting for these kids too...It makes me proud to be a Democrat to see my elected fighting for what is right.
