Otto Warmbier's parents: 'Hopefully something good' will come of Trump-Kim summit

Source: Cincinnati Enquirer

Nearly a year after they stood at Cincinnati's Lunken Airport to welcome home their son, the parents of Otto Warmbier said Tuesday they hope "something positive" can come out of the Singapore summit between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Fred and Cindy Warmbier of Wyoming, Ohio, issued a statement nearly a day after the two leaders met for the first time. At a news conference after the summit, Trump said Otto Warmbier's death "was not in vain" and help spur the nations to reach the diplomatic talks.

“We appreciate President Trump's recent comments about our family," the statement said. "We are proud of Otto and miss him. Hopefully something positive can come from this.”

It was six months ago that they made the claim, unsupported by the medical examiner, that Otto was horribly tortured into a coma by by North Korea. Until Otto's return, they blamed Obama for Otto's imprisonment (really and truly, Obama didn't capture the kid and hold him). It's nice to see that they've quickly moved on from the horror and convinced themselves that Trump did "some good".

The politics of hate supersedes everything.

You are entitled to your beliefs and political preferences. But make no mistake: This young man first victimized by that torturous regime since Little Hands Dennison descended down that gaudy escalator, has been completley forgotten by him now.

There is no excuse for cozying up to the Warmbier family and using their plight to saber-rattle and less than a year later willfully ignore the abuse that occurred as you talked of shitty beach condos on the Sea of Japan with that DPRK Psycho.

Abused, used, and then forgotten. Trump pattern for everything.

No shame.

Zero. It may or may not have happened, but his body was well nourished and without injury. His parents had to lie about the condition of his body to invent their claim.

It is definitely a horrible regime, but there is enough verifiable truth that it's just nuts to fabricate claims.

"without injury" and brain images that show significant damage similar to what is seen due to lack of oxygen?

Infection was not ruled out.

Absolutely the injury was caused by lack of oxygen, the cause of that event is unknown. His parents lied about the condition of his teeth and declined an autopsy which might have shown something.

He is dead, he was held for an absurdly thin reason, and he was unable to speak of what happened.

Call it zero if you want.

Oh, and botulism is not what I call well-nourished.

When his body was deplaned it was well-nourished.

My only point is that there is no way to know what happened. His family lied about the condition of his remains to support Trump.

The family chose to make it all unknown to those that closely followed it

I wasn't on the tarmac to see his nourishment level. It might be adequate given that he was likely on a feeding tube for months.

I know his parents were traumatized Trump supporters. Lying may be a stretch. I wouldn't want to have been in their shoes as they examined him.

Everything we know of this is that he left here alive and returned vegetative/dead. NK caused that and the Buffoon choosing to forget that during his vacation this week is sickening.

...similar, I'm guessing, to Terry Schiavo's condition at her death. That was determined by doing brain scans on him.

The 22-year-old has suffered extensive loss of brain tissue in all regions of the brain, doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said in a news conference Thursday.
...
"We have no certifiable knowledge of the cause or circumstances of his neurological injuries," Kanter said.

"This pattern of brain injury is usually seen as result of cardiopulmonary arrest where blood supply to (the) brain is inadequate for a period of time, resulting in the death of brain tissue."

Knowing nothing about his captivity the doctors could not, of course, categorically say what specifically caused the brain tissue to waste away. But whatever caused it occurred when he was held prisoner by NK. (And obviously, none of this was President Obama's fault.)

but there was no way to say. North Korea didn't typically physically torture American captives.

His parents declined an investigation after he died, then lied about his body's injuries.

Please dial down the "politics of hate." We need politics of decency.
